Although we know that some volumes of the Excel Saga manga, such as 7 & 8, are hard to obtain, I'd like to try to find out just how many of each volume Forum members are missing and would presumably like to find copies of!
If you're still looking for a volume (or volumes), please post in this topic which ones you need. Every so often, I'll tabulate the results so that we can all keep watch for sources of the missing volumes.

I own 1-21 (22 on pre-order) on VIZ (2 copies of Vol.8). I read Vol.8 in French before English because it was only 10 Euros on Amazon.fr.
Won Vol.8 (in English) for $65USD in an auction. I was desperate for a copy under $200. Anyhow, the book came in while I was gone to Toronto and I managed to find it new, in a bookstore in Chinatown, for retail price ($10CAD). Anyhow, I cried a little and then purchased it.
So, if anybody is interested on bidding on an unwrapped VIZ Vol.8, I have it listed for auction at $50CAD (just to make back some I spent on the auction copy). Before you come to disembowel me for the high price, 3rd-Year University is approaching and I will probably need the money for other highly-inflated non-excel-saga-related books. *sob*

Apparently, after printing volumes 1-6, Viz cut back on the number of copies printed for 7 and 8, believing that the demand wasn't there. Volumes 9-present were then again printed in slightly higher numbers. There is a more detailed (and probably more accurate) explanation somewhere on this Forum in one of the Topics, but I couldn't find the link. (If anyone remembers where it is, please post the link!)

In a non-surprising turn of events, volume 8 is the only one I don't have.
I am posting to brag that I am currently up to date, owning every volume.
In other news:
I couldn't find a place to post this, but I just want to gush a little bit about how much I love the Excel Saga manga, and that it is my all-time favorite work of fiction-EVER! My #2 would be Transmetropolitan, by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson, but it doesn't even come close to the love I have for Excel Saga. I get giddy just thinking about it.
Really, I feel like the universe has given me some sort of precious gift by finding this series, which I enjoy so much. Like, I'm in on this amazing secret, that isn't actually a secret at all! I don't even remember how I got into it, exactly, but I know that I read the manga before I saw the anime, and that I look forward to every new volume with rabid anticipation. I can read it from the beginning, again and again, yet never get bored or sick of it. Rikudo Koushi is a God, and the characters are his angels. There is nothing else in this world that elicits this kind of reaction in me. NOTHING! I wish that I could give it to everyone I know, but my friends don't (i.e. won't) read manga, and it feels like they're really missing out on something wonderful.
When I came back here and wrote: "Excel Saga - for life!", I truly meant it. I plan to get both the English and Japanese title logos tattooed on the inside of my forearms. I mean, I already have a Hell Girl circle/flame tattooed on my chest... but these will be different, special; a testament to my devotion.
I would say coming here is just the icing on the cake, but I don't like icing, so I'll say that you guys are the butter on the bread, because good bread is so much better than any cake.

E^D Crow... it hard to find words to respond to something like that. All I can say is: I've had that myself for sure, maybe for E.S, and for other things certainly. It's a truly wonderful feeling.
Sometimes i think of all the people who never watch anime/read manga and generally see the art style and think ANIMEPORN! How they have closed off something that could've really been special. I think people are too up themselves to consider different things or ways of thinking. It's their loss I guess.

Hell, I've pretty much hated anime/manga in general since 2010 and I still feel the same way E^D Crow does. Excel Saga is so good that it transcends mediums and stuff like that. Very inspiring work for me in a lot of different ways. Also, the fanbase is totally awesome. :im_nabeshin:

I plan to get those tattoos sometime before the series (U.S. release) is finished, and I will post the pics here once they have healed properly. I already enlarged both logos, and turned them all black, so now it's just a matter of time, and money.

In your shoes I would probably feel the same way as you right now. It can be difficult to score a good deal on those rare volumes. I hope it wasn't too insane a price.
It was less than fifty dollars anyway. The initial, horrible sting out of the way, I can now savor the stoic exuberance of knowing that for now, my collection is complete.
