"EXCEL SAGA Vol. 1 · by Rikdo Koshi · Rated 'T' for Teens ·
Available May 14th
Question: What happens when you try to act like an anime character in real life? Answer: EXCEL SAGA. Two groups of neighbors in an apartment building lead secret lives. One thinks they're trying to take over the city of Fukuoka. The other thinks they're trying to defend it. Only their bosses, would-be conqueror Lord Il Palazzo and obsessed bureaucrat Dr. Kabapu, know the truth behind this increasingly dangerous private game. Too bad neither lets their underlings in on it!

Hooray! Now we just need to buy it, and we can get Vol. 7 and 8 back eventually! (And yes, I'm aware this is almost certainly 'for North American readers only'. Such is the way of digital at the moment. I hope it changes soon.)
This sounds really cool..! Just hoping it DOES go international and not limited within the US only, I'd totally re-buy the entire series digitally..!
I love Excel Saga enough to buy every volume again digitally just so I can support it. I can't say that about anything else. If this ends up being reasonably priced and bringing back the OOP volumes, I'll finally be able to convince a lot of my apprehensive friends to start reading it.
Hooray for Viz! :ehail: :g_hail: :elhail: :im_nabeshin:
You think there's a chance the actual books will be reprinted if tat goes well..?
I hope so :o
This needs international availability!
Woohoohoohoo! $5 for volume 1.

:elhail: I, Elgala, am most pleased that Viz decided it wise to have my lovely visage take up more space on the banner than that of my mean senior.
Oh viz, I want to throw my money in your face and have you bathe in it, but you won't let me pay from where I live :(
QuoteThank you for your interest in VIZ Manga.

Volume 2 is already out! Looks like they might have Excel on a weekly release schedule. :o
I'm going to keep checking that, in case they get to their senses, and make it available to EU, I absolutely want this digitally..!
Have to wonder if these digital re-releases are going to affect those high prices of the elusive paperback volumes of 7 & 8 on auction sites like eBay. I mean, why pay 20 to 40 bucks when it can be obtained for a mere $5.
hmm.. I just now tried loading up the free 30 page preview of volume 1 to check it out. It wouldn't load for me. O_o
Nothing new since Volume 3. I hope the sales were good enough for them to continue... :e_upset:
Can't say if it would help sales alot, but if Europe actually got those series available online, I'd be all over it... :/

It actually just dawned on me why (besides low sales) we may not have actually seen Vol. 4. 4 is the volume where the gangster calls Hyatt a c**t. Viz is either going to have to censor it, rate it M (which would call attention to it), or, well, do what they're doing now. Sadness.
It's just a theory, mind you, but V. 4 is the one volume they'd absolutely have to do something with before tossing it up digitally.
Oh my, you're right! I couldn't believe that made it into a 13+ rated manga (still can't). :il_hahaha:
They could just add a little black bar over the word when they upload it, or something. Heck, the book itself is still in print (I believe), so I don't know if they really see it as a big deal.
For North Americans (which may be just me and Carl on this forum...), Viz now has Vol. 4 and 5 of Excel Saga digitally. 5 is OOP, so good news!
They are both uncut, meaning the c*** word is present and correct. Making my theory completely wrong! :D
For non-North Americans, keep sending polite letters to Viz regarding international digital rights...
We can send letters to Viz and ask for this..?
Give me the right email and I'll be at it :D
I'd love an international release of this, it's a great way to keep the series alive worldwide, when it's eventually going out of print..!
I'm an American!
This is great news, Monsieur Gaffney. I will have to purchase these straight away.
The email is customer_service@viz.com.
Note that a lot of the time, it's the Japanese rights holder that may have the international rights issue rather than Viz itself. But you have to start somewhere!
Done, it'll probably not do much though, but at least they can hang a formal letter from a fan on their wall now..!

It would be informative to everyone internationally if you hear something back from them. Let us know if you do.
Well here we go, I got this unfortunately anti-climatic response, which was a little sad after writing them such a long message about how much I cared for it:

We only have the right to sell in the U.S.
Well, short and to the point, I guess that's just how they're supposed to respond so that can't be helped, what a shame though...
[edit:]
I could add in the email I wrote to them as well, but it would just make their sudden one-sentence response feel that much harder of a blow to be honest :D
=(
Even though it was short (and not the answer everyone would want to hear), at least you got a response.
And now 6 and 7 are up. One of the two big OOP volumes!
<3 Viz. Since 8 already had a scan, now people can actually get into the series with ease! :ehail: :g_hail: :elhail: :im_nabeshin:
What a shame it's still US only, I got a friend from the UK who is missing volume 7 and 8, and this would be a great way to at least READ them, collecting the actual volumes would still be preferable though...
Oh well, positive progress, woo..! :elhail:
And now Volume 8 is up. With this, the worst OOP volumes are now available.
9 was out with 8 (which I'd missed) and 10 and 11 are out this week. The digital speedup continues!
This is going fast ..! :im_nabeshin:

Indeed it is.
Wish there was a way we could see how well it's selling digitally. Perhaps the quick releases are an indicator of good sales?
You don't even know how much I love Viz right now.
I'd buy these in a heartbeat, but I can't spend money at the moment. Soon though...
I doubt the quick releases are an indicator of good sales (though would love to be wrong).
My theory: Viz wants to go same day/date with digital and paper ASAP, and Excel Saga 25 is out on 4/13. Therefore we're getting this speedup so that it can day/date the 25th volume.
Vol. 12 and 13 are now available for your dancing and dining pleasure.
The hits keep on coming, with Vol. 14 and 15 now available. And a quick reminder that you're not allowed to skip the Teriha volumes. Thank you.

I doubt Viz'd skip any volumes. :il_hahaha:

Obviously one of your more favorite parts within the plot. :e_wink:
But yeah, that
is noteworthy and shouldn't be missed.
Teriha Saga Vol. 1 and 2 are now available digitally on Viz Manga's site.
And we now have Teriha Saga 3 and 4, meaning Excel Saga should return next week. Also, at this pace they will catch up by March 26, meaning Vol. 25 will indeed likely be day/date digital and print when April 9 rolls around.
Whoa... I missed the forum :il_hahaha:
Despite not appearing in their email... or on their website... or on the Tablet... Excel Saga 20 and 21 *are* available in NA this week.
22 this week... slowing down to one per week, probably so they can end with 25 on the day it comes out in print.
Still sad as heck that I can't buy these :(

Indeed :icon_confused:
And 23 is up... clock is ticking towards 4/9...
And 24, meaning Viz has now caught up digitally... till next week, then 25 will be day/date with print. And also when I can stop posting every week.
It's a shame that licensing is such a pain because I would gladly buy the whole series again.
This is actually a good idea. Reading manga online seems popular these days with sites like batoto, mangafox, etc., so hopefully Excel Saga got at least a few new readers thanks to this.
(also, it looks like the books are on sale at this moment, and are only $3.99 per volume)
