Ok, here I am immediately after seeing Transformers, downing an industrial sized bottle of Sam Adams Boston Lager and eating a half pint of Gelato and thinking to myself...
WHAT THE &%^$ did I just see? I mean yeah, I know, it was a Michael Bay movie and it was essentially a living cartoon but sweet Jesus, Mary, and Joseph that had to be the worst dialogue I have ever seen, and how they managed to pull in every military stereotype character you can shake a stick at in the first couple of minutes. My friends (except my best friend's wife - we're both lit majors and writers so we tend to see these things the same way) were appalled at how much I hated the movie - "You hate everything" and "You think too much" were the complaints against me. When is it bad to think too much? I mean it was funny in many parts and the transformers were cool, and there was lots of boom boom for the explosion junkies out there, and all the little nerds will go home happy jerking off to the hot chick, whatever her name was, but is it a crime to have some decent writing? X-Men managed to pull off a pretty good comic trilogy, something I and my far less critical friends all agree on, so why couldn't Transformers get that treatment? The only reason I would buy this movie would be to sit there and mock it.
My best advice if you haven't seen it yet and must see it, go in with this in mind - it's a comedy with action, it's Michael Bay, and there's boom boom (which of course is what Bay is all about), and the script you could swear was written by a 13 year old fanfic writer. Try to enjoy it for what it is, but if you're a little too stuck on dialogue give it a wide berth and let it rumble on by. There isn't more to meets the eye with this turkey.

Good point, and well made
hey wasn't the script for the original series sound like it was written by a 13 yr old nowt wong there then XD
i had the oppurtunity to watch it i think it was a week or two before it came out?
idk i could have watched it at AX. but i didn't want to. Anime Expo was boring, i didn't even want to go, lol.
heh... This is the third time this topic was created after the other two disappeared. Well, third time's the charm, huh? ^^
Looks like I'll be seeing it this Saturday..
ElricJC, you've painted a very bad picture of what's to come. X_x Shame on you for putting me into such a depressive state of mind.
Eh, don't mind me too much, I'm a hard ass when it comes to movies. Maybe I just can't shut off the ol gray matter long enough to enjoy its major point. Apparently I'm one of the harshest critics of it - even Roger Ebert gave it a positive, though he did remark it was quite dumb and not well written at all.
So far according to the sites I was perusing, on a scale of 10 it's hitting in the 6-6.2 range, but that's from critics and pricks like me. I guess when I put my transformers away for the last time when I was 13 they stayed there, out of sight, out of mind.
Frankly, didn't even know there were two other topics about it. Oh well.
I think the other two topics disappeared because the board had to be reset.
I'm glad you brought it back.
I'll admit that when I walk into the movie theater, I'll be quite critical over it. It's something which can't be helped much when The Transformers was my show of choice growing up in the 80s. Followed it pretty much religiously. Some of us used to fake being sick just so we could stay home from school to see an episode or two. I think it was for that very reason that I decided I needed to buy a VCR back then.

aaahhh the good old days when cartoons seemed relevent enough that we all skipped school just to watch it
^Indeed, those were the good ol' days for sure. =P
I think Voltron used to have the same effect on us as well. ^^;
But Transformers owned all.
Saw it yesterday and I can honestly say it didn't manage to rape my childhood too badly!
I think no matter what, any seasoned Transformers fan from way back will probably have some issues to how certain things were handled.
For me, my gripes would include:
The lacking of character development in both the Autobots and Decepticons. Bumblebee and Optimus were reasonably done, but nothing much from the others. Although, Megatron saying, " You failed me again Starscream!" was a nice touch of nostalgia.
Changing the character forms (names) - example: Devastator was in it, but only in name as he was a giant tank. >_<
The shaky camera work! Why do some directors feel that cameras must be purposely shaken so much during fight scenes?? O.o This is what irritated me about the second Resident Evil movie. It's hard to watch what's going on.
Peter Cullen doing the original voice of Optimus Prime literally sent shivers down my spine - it was so damn brilliant!!!! I would've liked to had heard more of the G1 voices to reprise their roles for the movie. Though, I'm not exactly certain how many of them are still around after twenty-plus years. I recently heard someone say that the original voice for Starscream (Cobra Commander in GI Joe), Chris Latta died in the early 90s. In Transformers Beast Wars, it was Doug Parker, a big fan of Chris' voicework who did Starscream's voice when he possessed Waspinator. IMO, he did a good job. Wish they got him to voice in the movie.
as far as I remember Frank Welker (the voice for Megatron) pulled out at the last minute for some reasons so Hugo Weaving did his voice
^I'm not certain, but that may have only happened in the animated movie.
But then again, Leonard Nimoy did Megatron's voice after when he became Galvatron.
And when the series continued after the animated movie, Galvatron's voice changed again. O.o
I must look this up after. ^^;;
I was pretty sure that Frank Welker did Megatron's voice for the most part of the series though. hmm...
EDIT: I think you're right about that, HA1L. I've seen more than one source that says Hugo Weaving did Meg's voice for this movie. If only Frank Welker could've done it... The original Optimus Prime voice with the original Megatron voice would have been FTW! =)

well to answer that frank did galvatrons voice after the movie
^He really did? But he sounded so whiny as Galvatron!
I guess maybe he changed his voice a bit as Galvatron. Electronic voice manipulation may've had something to do with it as well. But Frank Welker is indeed a genius with his voice range.
the following link is his filmography
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0919798/
EDIT: oh interesting note he is Megatron in the PS2 game coming out soon :D
Cinderella 3? wtf
So Frank is in the new game, but wasn't in the movie.
What a shame. T_T
Oh well....... a sequel is inevitable. Things could happen.
And if a sequel becomes reality, I would hope for more character development for the Transformers to make up from this movie.
I've seen it and I really like it. I wasn't expecting much but boy was I wrong
ALL HAIL MEGATRON
Uh-oh... HA1L must be a Decepticon fan. O_O
Let me guess: You're gonna be the one who gets Megs operational again, hmm? lol!
Last year at a local comic book shop, they had a nice Decepticon jersey for sale. Looked incredible. I should have bought it, but it was way too expensive for me at the time. T_T
It was a decent film would have done things different myself.
The only thing i have an issue with is optimus having a mouth. WTF

yes optimus with mouth should never have happened.
oh and yeah I'm a decepticon at heart

In the Transformers: Beast Wars series, Optimus Primal had the same thing going for him. Whenever he had to battle the Predacons, the familiar face sheild would cover the lower half of his face. The movie seemed to adopt that same concept with Prime which I thought was kind of cool.
And yes, I agree.. there are some things I would've done far differently.

I will truly be afraid if HA1L starts calling us all "Fleshlings". lol!
when I first saw what Megatron looked like I wasn't to sure but after seeing the movie I thought they did an amazing job on Megatron. even Hugo Weaving did his voice amazingly. even had some comedy in it
I mean who could forget Megatron going "Uggh disgusting" then flicking a random Fleshling :D
When I saw the preliminary sketches of Megatron for the movie I couldn't believe what it was I was seeing. O_O To me, he just looked like a big pile of.... what the hell IS that..??! lol!
However, I guess they had to make things somewhat more logical in his design this time; A giant transforming robot which could shrink into a size of a powerful hand gun wouldn't make much sense anymore.
to right fleshling XD
Finally saw it ^^. Too much Frenzy, not enough Starscream. But as its him who flies off into space at the end, I'm sure we'll see a lot more of him in the sequel

indeed. there was way to little of starscream.
Liked transformers the movie, though it would have been better if they had got the name of devastator correct, since the toy movie version is called brawl. I didn't think it was a pity that megatron didn't have much to say.
Here we go again with another movie... nearly two years later (Already?? Where does the time go?! lol!) we have a sequel: Revenge of the Fallen which starts coming out this week.
Who is psyched to see this one? Thoughts?
Something else to note: this year marks the 25th anniversary of The Transformers since their debut back in '84.....
......... 25 years... holy shitaki mushrooms... O_o
already seen it as it came out on the 19th in the UK (Dunno why) and I can say this about it. Watching it feels exactly like watching one of the G1 episodes :ehail: the plot is like the first one and mikaela's clothing leaves almost little to the imagination but it is an improvement over the 1st one THANK YOU GOD!!!
I thought it was a great film, I didn't see much point to that chap megatron seem to be serving though, since supposedly he is supposed to be in charge of the decepticons. I am glad that they made starscream more of a suck up.

hmm.. I've heard something about that. Michael Bay is reinventing things maybe too much. Far as I'm concerned, Megatron doesn't answer to anyone. And the ONLY time he ever did was with Unicron in the old animated movie.... and that was temperary.

Excellent! The first movie had almost nothing for his character development. This'll be great to see.
I just hope the make a third movie
they are they'll start filming in late august for an early 2011 release. there's even a competition by T-mobile to win a part in the movie (an extra most likely)
Just a question off subject but does any one collect the g1 series of transformers
got them (in fact I have almost all of Takara aswell except victory)

I have all Constructicons to make Devastator.
Thrust
Dinobot: Sludge
Junkion: Wreck-Gar
Insecticons: Kick Back, and Shrapnel
Triple changer: Astrotrain
Combaticon: Vortex
I bought all of these when they first hit the store shelves years ago and refuse to part with them. Have all the boxes and packaging too. ^^
I saw Revenge of the Fallen today and you're very right HA1L, it felt a lot like the ol' G1 days. Great stuff!
My personal gripe: Well they got Frank Welker to do voice work this time and they got him to reprise his role as Soundwave. Too bad they didn't process his voice properly like years ago. He sounded like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget (which he also did the voice for). It would've been the icing on the cake had they done that right. So many Soundwave fans out there.
Oh well, it was great to have Frank back again anyways - even if he didn't voice Megatron.
More likely they saved his voice for the game.
Out of the g1 stuff I own is:
The Combaticons currently in there bruticus form
Skywarp (re-release g1)
Blitzwing (re-release g1)
Apeface or apespit (I can't quite remember his name)
Starscream (2000 release, not true g1 representation)
ramjet (2000 release, not true g1 representation)
Galvatron (G1 japanese, with full sound including the commical jap speaking)
^I think his name is Apeface.
And that Japan version of Galvatron could be worth some serious money to collectors.
You're lucky. I wish I had all parts to Bruticus as I was only able to get Vortex at the time. Those things literally flew off the shelves. Wasn't quick enough. T_T
Trus me bruticus was a hard one to come by complete, I paid about £70 for him, unfortunately due to fault with the main body component onslaught, I had to take him back and get him changed, likely it was for the same one. I only paid about £65 for galvatron and he was fully boxed. Almost came across a trypticon, unfortunately some one had already resevered him.

actually he did do the right voice, the only thing seperating Dr Claw and soundwave is a voice modulator (if you listen to soundwave closely in a G1 episode he uses Dr Claw's voice plus in the episode called webworld they forgot the modulator )

I remember that. And it bothered me back then too. :il_hahaha:
Seriously, I can do a great Dr. Claw impersonation if I say so myself. heh..

i got to meet the original cartoon optimus prime
we actually went out to dinner and stuff. but i dont eat shrimp so i had a burger while everyone else was eating shrimp x3
The second film was a great movie, I saw it twice, I saw GI Joe last saturday, it was good but the whole rise of cobra thing didn't really happen until the end
Here we go again. The third Transformers movie, Dark Of The Moon is out.
For some great animated CGI work of the character models, check out MPXgraphics on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/MPXgraphics). While they're not perfectly spot-on, they're definately impressive.
Leonard Nimoy voices Sentinal Prime. Yes, he gets to voice another Transformer over 25 years later since the animated movie. Not only that, but his character gets to twist one of the most famous quotes from Star Trek's Mr. Spock... gave me the shivers.
:e_shocked:
I thought the new transformers movie was really good, but I did find some strange conincedence between sentinal primes face and unicrons face from the original cartoon movie. I quite liked lazer beak and sound wave, for me he wasn't a boring ass cassette player/ satelite as he appears in revenge of the fallen. Fought shockwave was rather shit though.
