Can't say I've ever been a fan of the revoltech figs. Most of the effort seems to go into hiding the joints rather than the build and so forth.

Resin all the way.

Except for maybe the CC I'm working on now. She's impossible.

Present indications are that it will probably be adround the summer season of '08, however since that is around the time that the live-action movie will be screening, I'm not sure which way it will go.

Oyashirosama.com doesn't seem to have much news either; I do know that there is a rodshow that will preceede the movie occuring in May, so we can expect to see it shortly after that.

I'm guessing that they will want to tie-in the movie and the series, so you can expect them to be showing around about the same time.

Anime / How much do you spend on your obsession?
« on: June 13, 2007, 07:47:24 AM »
I never really counted how much I spend...

...until one day I got an email say that I had just spent $500 at a single store, and hence was entitled to a discount...

I shop at about 5 stores, just for figures, so I guess that gives you an idea.

Next pay, I have to go out and spend a large chunk of my hard earned dollars on another bookshelf and a display cabinet.

So, I guess my answer is.... not enough?

If I had to put a monthly amount, let's see... (Prices in AU$ btw)
1 PVC fig @ $60
3 resin kits @ $30
Paint & supplies for resin kits @ $15
Manga- about 6 volumes @ $15

soooo... $270/month?

Anime / Suzumiya Haruhi Resin models
« on: April 10, 2007, 03:11:03 AM »
my last fig went for about US$80 I think, so that'd be a ballpark.
Extra stuff like high-gloss, pearlescents etc might add a little, depending on how much I end up using XD

And I've done it before, so it shouldn't be too hard.

PM me if you're interested

Also, this ships today:

Two of them, in fact.

The second is standing by, waiting for someone who can't paint to want it.

well my attempt at priming my Yuki has failed, looking into why.3 possible reasons:

1.need the mr hobby base white 1000 spray can rather than using it thro the air brush.
2.Need a good brand airbrush like iwata
or
3.somethign else, lol.

gunna strip em and start again, heres some pics to show how bad it turned out:

There's two way that I use to prime my resins.
Firstly (the "common" way) is to use Mr Surfacer 1000, then cover that with Mr White Base. If you're goign to AB the primer, then thin it to about 40%, put about 40-50 pounds of air behind it (if your AB can take it), and go full air with only a little flow (if you've got a dual action), from about 20-30 cm. I find that when I'm doing things like this (be it colour or primer) that it's good to hold the AB behind your ear. That way you can keep a close eye on the flowrate etc at the figure end.

The second is to use a primer spray, like Tamaya's Fine Surface Primer (Plastic/Metal). I use this most of the time, as you can get primers that are also white undercoat, which makes life easier. I like the Tamaya becuase it also has a nice finish for using clear/semi-clear flesh tones on.

Although the primer you've got in this post doesn't seem too bad.

I'm not sure where you are with this fig (been away for a week or so), I'm willing to help you out if you want. Also, make sure you have some pearlescent particles for the hotpants... she definately needs it :>

I have a few kits with pesudo step-by-step details on the windfs site; http://www.windfs.com/forums/index.php?showforum=23

That might help you a bit.

You should also try "spiking" (or pinning) your resins, it makes them much easier to handle and also helps in assembly.

General / What book are you reading at the moment? not manga.
« on: February 12, 2007, 06:29:01 AM »
The Harsh Cry of the Heron, the last of hte Otori series (the series that started with Across the Nightingale Floor).

Four books, good story and the like, although a bit too fantasy maybe. However, it kills the time and is addictive enough to keep me awake on the train or on a piss-boring op.

That is the Harem as it stands at the moment, however there are a few more in the mail.

I also put up the details of the figs that I'm building in the WinD forums: http://www.windfs.com/forums/index.php?showforum=23

I'm working on Tatiana from Last Exile ATM.

As for palces to buy things:
PVC/Completed Kits:
http://www.hlj.com/ -> Hobby Link Japan. One of the widest ranges out there, and based in Japan too. They aslo do clothing and the like.
http://www.tmpanime.com/ -> Twin Moons Anime. Based in the US, but if you're not in Japan or teh UK, they are one of the best rpiced joints.
http://tokyotoys.com/ -> UK based, so good for anyone who gets cheap postage form the UK iI guess. Prices are slithgly high than buying fomr the US/Japan, but that's part of teh fun I guess.

Resin kits:
http://www.e2046.com/ -> awesome site, has resin ktis of practically every series, and a painting service if you're not confident in your skills (I also paint for commission, and could end up being cheaper).

Anyway, here's to anothe figres thread

Anime / The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
« on: May 31, 2006, 07:51:40 PM »
C'mon- the guy's a first year computer club president who's being accosted by two cute chicks- one who's extremely hyperactive and the other who he's being forced to molest. That's not the type of person you'd expect to be assertive enough to cold-cock anyone...
Plus, as you ca nsee by ep 1(0) Haruhi probably isn't hte easiest person to take a camera off...

As to the Yuki situation...  I dunno. Seems just a bit too aloof for my liking, and her boredom is a touch contagious.

And yeah, I was wrong about cute Haruhi. How could you dislike any form of Haruhi? It's just not legal.
