Anime / Re: What's the last anime you've seen?

I've watched nearly all Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Sayonara+Zoku+Goku+Zan) and it's really great ! This show has the perfect mix of absurdity, creepiness and dark humor. Most episodes have the same basic structure, but I never felt bored ; and as usual with SHAFT, some episodes were totally deranged, like when they go claymation or switch the voice actors or when they all speak gibberish with two different subtitle tracks. I'm now addicted to Zan ending : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOpsJYcTak0

I'm reading some Yotsuba& right now, which is pure concentrated happiness. I can't understand why I like it so much as nothing ever happens in this series, yet I can't help but smile at every page :e_pleased:.

Each week I watch the new Fate/Zero, and it's AMAZING. In 6 episodes so far, there never was any default, each moment has been so EPIC and AWESOME, it's too good to be true !

I've also been watching some series bit by bit with the anime club at my school, and in brief :
- Chrno Crusade : boring and stupid
- Gundam 00 : interesting but most characters are antipathic
- Baka to Test to Shokanjuu : funny but repetitive

I'm happy !

I just received some fantastic posters for my room !

(The crappy quality is due to my phone, you can see them in best quality on the artist's page : http://society6.com/benhuber ; kudos to his beautiful art !)

Moreover, I just bought Umineko Chiru, which means I'll soon be able to enjoy the masochistic pleasure of having my mind fully trolled.

I'm so happy I couldn't die right now, as I would be resurrected by pure joy.  :ehail: :ehail: :ehail:

Something similar happened to me this summer, when I went to watch a movie in a little movie theater found in a catalog.

When I arrive at the place, a lot of people are coming out and stand in the street, discussing together. They seem to all know each other. I enter to buy a ticket for the showtime at 2pm, but there's no one at the checkout. Five minutes before 2pm, someone comes, sells me a ticket, but warns me that the movie won't start before another half-hour. I wait outside, with all the people still there. I feel quite awkward. :e_confused:

It's 2:30, and no one is getting in. I don't know in which room the movie will be screened. Finally the man who came before tells me the room, and I go in. I'm ALL ALONE when the movie starts. Towards the end, two people get in, stay there for a minute, then get out. I wonder what's going on.

Incidentally, the movie was "Animal Kingdom", which was was MUCH darker than I expected and it was really difficult to keep watching until the end. Then, I exited the building and was quite relieved to get out of here.

It was quite the experience, so I think I can understand how you felt, E^D Crow.

Thanks Randamo, I ordered it too.

As a side-effect, I just received my first spam in japanese, trying to sell me mineral water. ???
At least it changes from the usual ones...

Finishing Full Metal Alchemist - the first series.
I was skeptical at first, as I don't usually like shonen, but I think it is quite good in fact. The universe is interesting, few characters were obnoxious, and some of the plots were well thought.
Still, I won't be able to hear even one more time "the Principle of Equivalent Exchange" without going on a rampage.

You could also watch the last Endless Eight (9th episode), as it is somewhat  linked to the movie.

"The Sighs" arc (episodes 10-14) is interesting too, as it explains what happened during the filming they did in episode 00. But it is irrelevant to the movie.

I saw Summer Wars too ; like you said Randamo, I found it fun and the visuals were really original in Oz, but I wouldn't put it as Must-watch.

Also watched King of Thorn ; while it starts as survival-horror it's quite good and thrilling ; but then, in the second half, it gets really complicated to follow the plot twists and reveals. I didn't really understand the end ; still, a great movie.

And about The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, this movie is so epic and wonderful. It's pure happiness for Kyon fans like me.

Games / Re: What game did you buy most recently?

Finished Ghost Trick in two days.
I see that Phoenix Wright writers are as good as ever !
The story really moved me, so funny and dramatic at the same time ; the characters are so great and the gameplay is very good.

Now to wait for AA Investigations 2... Wait, they won't release it outside Japan ?
OH FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU- :e_angry:

Just finished the first playtrough. The end is disappointing, but I saw that the story continues in DLC 3.
I have the Game of the Year edition, but I can't play the DLCs yet as I'm playing the PC version on a mac and I need some special modifications that I can't do right now.

Currently playing Borderlands as Lilith; it's really fun !
I like the lot of variety of guns, and even if the quests are a bit redundant, the characters and the background are interesting.

Well, I saw the movies on an amateur translation website, so... not really legal...

But on a more positive note, I am soon going to "Japan Expo", a convention in Paris, and I will probably buy there K-ON!, Durarara !! and other interesting series.

Watched Eden of the East and the two movies... That's it ? That's the series everyone was praising so much ? I can't see what they found in it.

On the + :

- The opening is great ;
- The animation is top quality ;
- The plot looks interesting at first ;

On the - :

- Saki and her friends are totally useless and have no relevance to the main plot, yet you see them as much as Akira
- The plot is really contrived and loses itself in uninteresting subplots
Fourth Selecao dies stabbed by his wife, for a totally stupid reason ? :icon_eek:
We spend 2-3 episodes searching for the johnny Hunter and then... nothing happens ?  :icon_eek:
- The end of the series is pretty dumb
After stopping the missiles strike and having become a hero, I'll just say "I want to become King of Japan" and then erase my memories again ?! WTF ?!
- And then in the second movie,
"On a second tought, I don't want to be King of Japan anymore ; I'll just leave a message to everyone and then DISAPPEAR AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON ?!"  :e_angry:
-
We never even learn why he was naked, with a gun, in front of the White House at the start ! It's the very first mystery of the very first episode, and it's never explained, for crying out loud !
I did find the second movie a bit more interesting, but I really think that the author wasted a good idea.

General / Light Novels Translations
March 22, 2011, 01:18:15 PM
I discovered this site some time ago and just finished reading his last novel translation : http://anonspore.blogspot.com/.

Spore's translations are very good ; for those interested, he translated one Baccano! book : Children of the Bottle, one Black Lagoon book : Shaitane Badi, he's still translating an ongoing manga : Bambino, and just started to translate the Slash, another Baccano! book.

I haven't read Bambino, but I found both light novels to be very enjoyable.

I highly recommend that you take a look at it !  :e_wink:
