The least-anticipated revival since Fuller House is finally here! Against all odds, the Excel
Saga Forum is back with its original domain name intact. Read the announcement thread for
more details, or check out the Resources section for help finding copies of both the manga and
anime. And don't forget to join our newfangled Discord if that's the kind of thing you're into!

^ You have no chance to survive make your time.

Hehe.

Anyways, Thanks for the response, guys. I'm thinking about getting one of those scanner/printer/copier machines, as long as the scanner is of high quality. And I may even save up some money to purchase that Manga Studio ($300 shouldn't be too long, it's just that I can't get it until I purchase a scanner first).

Creativity / Need advice on my future manga hobby.
February 02, 2007, 10:45:05 AM
I want to get a hi-quality scanner that's sold at, say, Best Buy. But I don't know which one to get. Previously I've drawn manga on B4 sized paper (the really big one which is standard format of manga-ka in Japan). The printers I gave it to shrunk it down to 8 1/2 x 11 (also traditional of manga in Japan) and they sent me back the materials, yada-yada-yada.

Anyways I want to get a scanner, but I haven't found any big enough for the B4 size paper. I could work on 8 1/2 x 11 copier paper, but I really can't stand it, and the paper isn't of the usual thickness to hold the ink.

Also with this scanner, I want it to be able to produce the images in hi-quality format (no JPEG! FOR ALL THAT'S HOLY NO JPEG!!!), maybe PNG, or perhaps the ability for the image to be moved to different formats. Then I wish to move it to Photoshop or some other coloring software.

Anyways, here are my questions:

1. What kind of scanner should I purchase? How much money should I expect to spend (no thousand dollar ones, please)?

2. What program should I use to add color and edit?

3. ALL UR BASE R BELONG TO US.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Haha, I like it. Your pencil work, that is. Plenty fun to look at. I perceive a future manga-ka in the making.

However, I noticed a couple things I thought I should tell you. I really like the first pencil image compilation of Excel, Hyatt, Menchi and Rikudo. I did notice, however, that Excel's bodily proportions are a bit off. For example, the large image of Excel with her right arm out. The arm is a little short compared to her body structure. Secondly, her torso-to-waist formation is awkward. Her hips should be a little teeny-tiny-bit higher. Third, her left hand should normally be resting upon the hip, not higher (unless you were intentionally putting her hand higher, which is unnatural); and it appears her hand is resting on the fabric of her shorts, where it should be resting upon her hips, the fabric pulled in.

The rest I would mention are just little things. I love the artwork, a pleasure to look at. I especially enjoy Excel reaching for Menchi (hence the intentional super-deformed structure of the image).

If you want to study anatomy, there's a pretty good book out by Graphic-Sha about bodies and anatomy. Also, are you using the traditional stick-figure body format? From what I can tell, it doesn't appear that way.

For some reason I just discovered an anime I completely forgot I had. I entirely forgot it's name as well. I didn't care for it, but still, it shocks me that I've found it in the bottom of my closet. More details to come later.

Quote from: "starcat"The last anime I watched, or the last anime I've seen?

Either works, as long as it's specified.

List the anime, whether it's OVA, Movie or Series (and what episode it is).

The last anime I saw would have to be the Gunsmith Cats OVA. Real good fun there. Just before then, I watched the original Project A-ko movie. I can't count how many times I've watched both of those animes.

Y tu?
