Check out this news story I just got off my Yahoo! News... my brain hurts...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080724/ap_on_re_au_an/new_zealand_bizarre_names

You'd think this was a story from the Onion, but no... what's up with the Kiwis?  Honestly, is there something off in their drinking water?  And who names, and what court would allow, someone to name their child "Number 16 Bus Shelter?"

Well its nice that someone is putting a stop to it.
Why don't you just eat peanuts with your eyes and spaghetti through your nose you offense to God!

Lan

Crazy, I may have even seen her around Wellington when I stayed there last year... crazy Kiwi's lol. "Kiwi", yeah thats quite a good girls name  :e_cool:

Ya gotta wonder what goes on in these peeps' heads to come up with such scarring names for their children. O.o Yes, originality is nice but only up to a point where it can wreck havac on a child's social upbringing.

For some reason this article reminded me of a couple of the weird names Frank Zappa gave to a few of his kids - Dweezil and Moon Unit. But then, celebs never surprise me with the odd names they come up with.

Her Excellency The Pink Bunny

Those names are more like user names. If someone I knew was going to name their kid that way I would have a heart to heart conversation about how it's not funny and you're not a celebrity.

Wow, what kind of parents would give their child such an embarrasing name?  Good thing someone's finally doing something about it.

Makes you think what goes through their heads sometimes

My guess is THC - lots of THC.  I mean how else do you come up with "Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii" or "Number 16 Bus Shelter"?

The same applies, but the THC is often from a far more expensive and high-quality source, likely in the region of Acapulco :).  Add to this the often chronic insanity that goes along with celebrity and you have an excellent recipe for odd names :D.

Zappa was anti-drug.
Strangely enough, I've heard that said about him before. I guess he was quite an eccentric.
