Guitar Hero
« on: January 29, 2008, 10:04:27 PM »
You know, I'm rather surprised there isn't a Guitar Hero thread here! So now there is!

So who plays? I'm deeply obsessed with the game (No, I can't play real guitar. Yes I do own one. I'm not good at it, but I'm practicing). I'm one of the better players around here (as in, Ohio), but overall, I suck compared to some of the greats.
For example, I 5*ed everything in GH3's career mode on Expert, but I can't beat Jordan.
I can beat Through the Fire and the Flames, but not The Devil Went Down to Georgia (84%)
I usually score within the top 10 of the weekend tournaments online too, if I remember to play them though... so close to getting those elusive T-shirts!

I have the first two. I still haven't played the third one though.

I usually play on expert. Anything less than that I don't really feel like I'm playing the songs.

I think I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't like Guitar Hero.  I don't find it fun, also I suck at it.  In the immortal words of the Terran Marines from Starcraft, "GIMME' SOMETHIN' TA' SHOOT."

I guess I should mention that I do consider myself an actual musician... I'm a bass player (upright for school, electric for personal use). I also own an acoustic and an electric guitar.

Whether or not this has anything to do with Guitar Hero, I'm not certain. It certainly doesn't hurt.

Most people say there's very little connection between playing an actual instrument, and the fake guitars in games. Though it does help you get a sense of rhythm.
Rock Band however, there's a pretty good connection between the drums and real life. If you can play drums in real life, you can do RB pretty well, and if you do good (as in, you can 5 star everything) on expert drums in RB, you have the potential to play real drums to an extent.

Oh, in my opinion, GH > RB. RB is fun and all, but it's got so many flaws... the only saving grace is that it's fun to play with a group of people, and that the drums are fun. However, the instruments they supply are incredibly shoddy (I broke my drum peddle within a week) and feel weak. Plus, the guitar and bass lines are insanely easy to do, with the exception of certain solos, which become impossible due to how tight they've made the system of Hammer ons and Pull offs. Which kind of is fixed if you use the solo buttons on the RB guitar... but since that guitar is near unplayable anyway, it means those sections are death. Plus, the graphics are pretty ugly... the charts look horrific, and seeing HoPos is incredibly difficult. The people move very fluid like though.

I think it helps with being able to register the rhythm and notes (sight-reading), but not necessarily playing on the guitar controller.

In any case, it's a freakin fun game.

I still want Rock Band. I'm waiting for Rock Band to come out for the Wii before I get it.

You should get the 2nd or 3rd then. They fixed a lot of problems in the second one, which make it a lot easier to play the difficult songs.

new game announced. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. 30 songs by Aerosmith, and a few by bands that have opened for them, or inspired them.
Kind of a mixed bag of opinions on that one...
