What do you name your characters?

I'm guessing for you guys that you just pick your name when the option is given, but are there any instances where you made up a name for the heck of it? If so name the game, what you picked, and why.

Even if the game gives you the option, if they list a name in the manual, I'll usually go with that (like Link for OOT).

In other cases, I like to use names related to Alice in Wonderland.

Chester Katt: SMT: Strange Journey

Lewis Carroll: Persona 4

Martin Hare: Persona 3

Maddox Hatter: SMT: Devil Summoner

John Tenniel: SMT: Nocturne

I also liked to give nicknames to Pokemon if it fit something else I was interested in, like Darkwing Duck for example.

Megavolt = Jolteon

Liquidator = Vaporeon

Bushroot = Meganium

That's about all I can think of for now.

Final Fantasy VII..

It's been such a long time since playing it. Can't remember the names I changed the characters to. But I DO know they were some of the weirdest names imaginable. Hilarious really.

Other than that, I generally keep default names intact.

Most of the SMT games have no default name, plus it's a male character, which is why I had the chance to get a little creative.

I take naming way too seriously; I want to give the character a name that's fun but not overly silly. I love the memory in Fragile where the guy regrets naming his character AAAAA since he didn't care at the time. He talks to the character like he's real, asking him if he's really content with dying with such a lame name (since the end of the world is pretty much coming).

I quite like the idea of naming characters in games.  Currently my character in this current game of fallout 3 I am playing is called sera's, I was thinking of watching hellsing at the time, didn't though, decided to explorer apocalyptic washington dc, much more interesting.

I don't have too many games where i name my characters, or a game profile at least...

But usually when i get the opportunity, i call them "MickiMatsu" or "MinceFSupply"

My PC is actually named MinceFSupply, and my Cell Phone too :D

When I'm the main character, I'll use:

Ed Crow (or some variation of that)
Dr. Mojo (or, if I can fit it, Dr. Van Van Mojo)
Zarathud
Excel or Eris (if it's a female character)

As far as my Pokémon go, I absolutely love giving them weird names, and name ALL of them.
Here's a small sampling:

Gallade: (I have 2, one named Athos, and one named Porthos [still haven't gotten a 3rd for D'artagnan])
male Roserade: Don Juan
female Geodude: Debrock
Gligar: Geiger (I also have Gliscor named Il Palazzo)
Psyduck: Canard
Buneary: Fornicator
female Chingling: Is a bell
female Scyther: Sheary
male Shieldon: Wallter
Coragunk: Kung-Furog
female Tangela: Sodnya
Houndour Houndoom: Snuggles
male Duskull: Sam Hain
male Floatzel: H.P. Otter (female Weazie)
Pachirisu: Skwoe-woe

Sometimes, I give them normal names.  Criketune Jim, Gardevoir Bianca, Garchomp Penelope...  I have entirely too much fun coming up with names for my Pokémon!

I rarely give nicknames. If I do, it's usually in Pokemon, but I just give them their original anime names. I did name Dawn/Hikari "Sue" when I had gotten Platinum....I think I was on crack :-/

I do have sudden urges to name some of my pokemon though. I named my Piplup "Beetlebum" in Platinum and I named some others which I have released that I have no recollection of what I named them; but my personal favorite has to be a Ralts that I named "Pokerface". It evolved into Gardevoir, btw  :il_hahaha:

Phantasy Star Universe:

1: Squeezit
2. Masou
3. Pandora
4. Insert Name Here

Dungeon Fighter Online

1. Squeezit
2. Pandoram <-- (someone jacked Pandora an hour before me :/)
3. Erida
4. FamineWar
5. Storage21 (storage character :P)
6. Bohx (pandora's box...limit 4 characters for a name :(

Persona 4 and every other game that "forces" me to name a character (doesnt have a character name) i always name them Squeezit, or if i play a girl character like Dragon Age Origins i play a female mage, or in Borderlands i play the siren, i always give my character white hair and name them Pandora
