Excel Saga Vol. 1... digitally!
« on: May 04, 2012, 12:45:21 AM »
Via the new press release sent out by Viz:

"Latest Digital Update For The First-Half Of May Also Features The Launch Of HIGH SCHOOL DEBUT, MISTRESS FORTUNE, SEIHO BOYS HIGH SCHOOL And EXCEL SAGA"

"EXCEL SAGA Vol. 1 · by Rikdo Koshi ·  Rated ‘T’ for Teens ·

Available May 14th

Question: What happens when you try to act like an anime character in real life? Answer: EXCEL SAGA. Two groups of neighbors in an apartment building lead secret lives. One thinks they're trying to take over the city of Fukuoka. The other thinks they're trying to defend it. Only their bosses, would-be conqueror Lord Il Palazzo and obsessed bureaucrat Dr. Kabapu, know the truth behind this increasingly dangerous private game. Too bad neither lets their underlings in on it!

VIZ Media’s multiple digital manga platforms allow for universal access to read manga from an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and now, on VIZManga.com for desktop/laptop PC-enabled computers as well as Android-powered devices with built-in web browsers. The free VIZ Manga App is the top application for reading manga and features a rapidly growing library of the most popular manga series in the world. For more information, please visit VIZManga.com or www.VIZ.com/apps."

Hooray!  Now we just need to buy it, and we can get Vol. 7 and 8 back eventually!  (And yes, I'm aware this is almost certainly 'for North American readers only'.  Such is the way of digital at the moment.  I hope it changes soon.)

This sounds really cool..! Just hoping it DOES go international and not limited within the US only, I'd totally re-buy the entire series digitally..!

I love Excel Saga enough to buy every volume again digitally just so I can support it. I can't say that about anything else. If this ends up being reasonably priced and bringing back the OOP volumes, I'll finally be able to convince a lot of my apprehensive friends to start reading it.

Hooray for Viz! :ehail: :g_hail: :elhail: :im_nabeshin:

:elhail: I, Elgala, am most pleased that Viz decided it wise to have my lovely visage take up more space on the banner than that of my mean senior.

Oh viz, I want to throw my money in your face and have you bathe in it, but you won't let me pay from where I live :(

I'm going to keep checking that, in case they get to their senses, and make it available to EU, I absolutely want this digitally..!

Have to wonder if these digital re-releases are going to affect those high prices of the elusive paperback volumes of 7 & 8 on auction sites like eBay. I mean, why pay 20 to 40 bucks when it can be obtained for a mere $5.

hmm.. I just now tried loading up the free 30 page preview of volume 1 to check it out. It wouldn't load for me. O_o

Nothing new since Volume 3. I hope the sales were good enough for them to continue... :e_upset:

Can't say if it would help sales alot, but if Europe actually got those series available online, I'd be all over it... :/

It actually just dawned on me why (besides low sales) we may not have actually seen Vol. 4.  4 is the volume where the gangster calls Hyatt a c**t.  Viz is either going to have to censor it, rate it M (which would call attention to it), or, well, do what they're doing now.  Sadness.

It's just a theory, mind you, but V. 4 is the one volume they'd absolutely have to do something with before tossing it up digitally.

Oh my, you're right! I couldn't believe that made it into a 13+ rated manga (still can't). :il_hahaha:

They could just add a little black bar over the word when they upload it, or something. Heck, the book itself is still in print (I believe), so I don't know if they really see it as a big deal.
