Title: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Foggle on October 06, 2007, 08:04:53 PM
So, which episode did you like the most, and which one did you despise?

My favorite one was "Legend of the End of the Century Conqueror" because it reminds me of the newer manga volumes; hilarious, but also depressing at times.

My least favorite episode was "The Best of Mr. Pedro" because, IMO, it was a pointless recap of the worst parts of the series.

My least fav was also the best of pedro

My fav... the all female one, loved its animation

Yeah, that one had great animation.  The art was higher quality, as well.

some of them just had god awful animation like the scene with Watanabe talking about how his money wont last as he walks outta that store. All people around where just poorly drawn white blobs and Iwata and Sumiyoshi looked bad as well
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Foggle on October 06, 2007, 08:48:18 PM
I rather liked the white blobs, myself. D:

One sequence of bad animation really stands out in my mind.  It's in the episode with Key, there's one part where Excel looks just about as big as Sumiyoshi, while Hyatt remains thin as usual.

huh when was that?
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Randamo on October 06, 2007, 10:31:56 PM
i didnt watch the pedro episode, since it was a pedro and recap episode, but i choose that as worse
best depends on my mood, but i'd have to say the third episode

and as for the white blobs, i read in those cultural refernce thingies that that was a reference to di gi charat, which animates background people that way.
i rather liked the white blobs too.
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?

but thats no excuse for the crappiness of Iwata and Sumiyoshi's animation
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Randamo on October 06, 2007, 10:45:17 PM
oh...well, yeah.
of course you cant expect them to look good ALL the time, most anime has those REALLY annoying scenes where everyone looks terrible.
of course, i dont think they did a good job with Iwata, Misaki, Wantanabe and Hyatt.
or maybe its just because Iwata and Wantanabe just aren't good looking characters. do you agree with me on that?

meh there not that bad. they look good in the anime. I wish Rikdo was on the team when it was created...

yeah, didnt he pretty much give them rights and let them do whatever the heck they wanted to do - he wasn't even the voice for himself in the japanese version. they actually hired someone to impersonate him.

yea, the only thing i believe he did do was make the cover art for the DVDs

Those white blobs were perfect in Puni Puni Poemy, i disliked them alot in Excel Saga though...

Well, the anime isn't living up to the superior manga version anyways, it makes sense they walked a different route with background people than what the manga had (At least not-important characters in the Manga were actual good looking human shaped silhouettes, unlike the white blobby ones of teh anime)

Anyways, my least favorite were pretty much all with poor animation, and the pedro only ones... actually, almost anything with pedro, except his first part (that was rather funny actually, but then it went out of hand)

My favorites were obviously those with great animation and art... Ep1 Ep 3, Ep8 and Ep26 there was the one with Key too, i reckon that it had rather good looking moments, i forgot the Episode number though... i should re-watch to check which others looked great...

My favorite episode was 25. I also really love 23, 24, 21, and 7 a lot.

My least favorite episode was the Sara Cosette episode. Nice animation or not, I really hated it a lot. I also really dislike the first Menchi episode, and though it has its moments (Il Palazzo playing the guitar~~~), I'm not a big fan of episode 26.
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: skycloud on October 07, 2007, 05:34:21 PM
the plot behind cossette story wasnt all that bad, better then some of the episodes it atleast had a touching story to it and some drama and comedy to it
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Uncreativity on October 07, 2007, 05:54:26 PM
I think the drama was really out of place and badly done. It's okay for Excel to have her little bit of drama at the end of the series, 'cause she's the main character, but it doesn't really work with anybody else.
Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?
Post by: Randamo on October 07, 2007, 09:41:49 PM
i thought the excel drama at the end was weird.
i mean, the part where she kept banging on the door with blood coming off her hands was actually pretty well done and the shooting her bit, but when her voice got softer and she kept being all melancholy was out of character and sort of akward

you mean when she lost her memory? Isnt that kinda natural for people when they lose there memory?

well my fave episodes were 1-7,13-16, 18 and 23-25

my least fave the 2 Menchi ones(episode 10), the Pedro recap(episode 20) and the last episode (well it's mostly the ending with Pedro

3 was likely my favorite, but the sewer crawling one was a close second (was that 7?)

Least?  Both Menchi episodes, and the Pedro recap - complete waste matter.

I actually liked the second Menchi episode.  The first one was terribly unfunny, though.

yeah she had amnesia but dont you think a person's general personality would remain the same?
the real excel in the anime wouldn't get so depressed...manga excel would.

But unlike most of the other characters, Excel actually acted like Excel in the anime.  My opinion, anyway.

Title: Re: Your Favorite and Least Favorite Episodes?

actually Excel acted originally more or less as she did in the manga when she first lost her memory, but as she started to remember things she started to revert back to her normal personality. (You can tell her voice completely reverts back to her old crazy tone when she remembered her own name)

The more she forgets the more normal she acts.

yeah, a person does get emotional when they get amnesia, but i just didn't like how soft and emotional her voice got when compared to normal voice excel.

Fave Episodes : Love Puny, Butt Out Youth, Visually Appealing Type.

Episodes I Hate : Menchi's Great Adventure, The Story Of Mr Pedro (pointless recap episode) and For You I Could Die (sorry, but an Excel Saga episode without humour is NOT 'true' Excel Saga, IMO)

I dug "For you, I could die".  It's close to the same tone of the manga.  I also liked "The Interesting Giant Tower" for the same reason.

Least favorites: both Minci episodes, and the Pedro recap...

The thing I liked best about "Going Too Far", was the just about proper
(but still too much) amount of blood Hayatt spewed.  The majority of the series was tame when it came to the rather shocking amount that she vomits up in the manga. :hdead:

Yeah, For You I Could Die is one of my favorites, too, thus my comment about the manga.  I also thought that The Interesting Giant Tower was great.

I actually liked the second Menchi episode, though, it was rather funny.

Considering that the show was aired late at night, why didn't they put the proper amount of Hyatt blood in the other episodes? O.o

While I wouldn't classify the amount of blood in the manga as "shocking," "disgusting," or "disturbing," she still bleeds quite a bit.

There are many instances where she is either spewing more then a little from her mouth, or is found lying in a puddle.  I called it rather shocking, because it is much more then a simple nosebleed or even a deep cut.  It's more like the amount that would come from a lost limb... except from her mouth.  :hdead:

i love it when they use the same lines in excel saga. once in book 2,
iwata: making fun of wantanabe being a wuss
wantanabe said: my pairs in effect

and then later in book 4
Excel: yes today, this pair's(hyatt and excel) in full effect.

made me laugh.

*vain attempt to steer the course back on topic*

My favourite episode by far would have to be Episode 6, as that was the first episode of Excel Saga I had ever watched. I had just flicked onto it and caught the part where Misaki slapped Iwata so hard he flew into the drinks vending machine. I think it was that which made me instantly love the series.

Least favourite episode... Hmmm, I really can't think of any episodes that weren't my favourite, though episode 26 did, as its textual title suggests, go a bit too far.  :lordilvryannoyed:

I loved episode 26, political incorrectness and all. :D Of course, I have a sick sense of humor, which helped me enjoy that one, but I seriously feel that there are worse episodes (the first Menchi episode, the Pedro recap, even possibly the pool episode with Cosette).

what i disliked about ep 26 is the, well, speed of the storyline. i sorta liked the beginning, because it was quickly paced. the rest really slowed down, and those parts where really the stuff i fastforwarded through, just because they dragged, and well, the content . i guess i just want a quick storyline. too bad most anime is slow paced, im afraid it has to do with the budjet. too many starey scenes.

and hey, wlecome to the forum Chazfox.

Thanks for the welcome, Randamonian ^^

My other favourite episodes in particular would have to be "Melody Of The Underground Passage" (especially the part with the Department of City Security beating the hell out of the Puchuu) and "Big City Part II" (With Hyatt scaring her captors by dying in their car, and Menchi being scared of a Puchuu this is another of my favourite episodes by far.)

I personally like episode 7 with the puchus in the sewer, and a strange take on the puchu/queen alien hybrd. I also happned to like the episode that was dedicated to pedro,  especially where they take the piss out of the saiyan transformation, but personally and I would feel like pedro having an afro or as I reference them as microphones.

My least favourite episodes are the menchi ones and too honest they bored me to shit.

there's too much confusion they brought up concerning hyatt. you remember the 2nd episode where space butler was about to die and had a flashback where hyatt was with il palazoo? when hyatt fell to across headquarters, he seemed not to know who she is. but what doesn't make sense is that they gave the impression that they DID know each other before.
why does space butler know il palazzo anyway?

Tell me if i'm wrong, but i think we are delving into this too much.  The anime itself is described as deranged and wacky, no matter ho wmuch we delve the multitude of unsolved problems presented are deliberate and are intended to confuse for comedic effect..... I hope no one gets mad at me, but after downloading the first episode I'm already pretty turned off. I didn't find it funny at all how Excel kept dying and that she just seems so different from her manga persona. It was a little funny how they had her kill Rikdo Koshi but why oh why did they make Pedro, whose name was only mentioned once in the manga, an MC?! It was also kind of weird to see him be all buddy-buddy with Excel; I just have a hard time picturing her being friends with one of the "masses".

When I have time I plan on watching a little more of the series, but...

I never expect a good adaptation of the manga after all my experiences of going from a manga to an anime. I expect it to be very different but just how badly they tend to screw it up and the dumb stories that arise still baffle me at times.

At least it isn't as awful as the Hyper Police anime; I'm still very upset over that. They took a hilarious, pervy manga and turned it into a boring kiddy show!

why compare the anime to the manga? doing so is just stupid. the anime only had 6 or so volumes to adapt. they even made the fact they ran out of material to go on as a joke! as an anime it was epic, which didnt worry about koshi rikudos version too much. nabeshins input and story was probably the best idea at the time to make rid of any serious plot and just concentrate on the silly slapstick, which still hails as the craziest anime of all time!

the anime is epic win. BUT, if the anime never had existed, and they decided to do one now, i would only want to see a faithful manga adaptation from scratch, with no nabeshin, or no direct sequel to the 1st series. like i said, the anime we got only had 6 volumes to go on, so it shouldnt and didn't rely on it.

How can anyone not like "that man". Lol what a hilarious name. "...but you will always only be 'That Man!'" roflol

I was curious so I skipped to the final episode to see if it really deserved to be called "Going Way Too Far".

......

Yup. The scene with Shioji was one of the creepiest things I have ever seen.

Favorite of mine was episode 18 "Municipal Force Daitenzin". A good Power-Ranger spoof even if there wasn't real evil to battle.

The Pedro recap was a waste of time. But they probably done it on purpose to piss everyone off.

:il_hahaha: We agree on two counts then. Love the daitenzin episode too! It's almost my favorite, though for some reason I can't call it that...
And Pedro is the least, barely beating out Mince. Not that Mince isn't great, but without Excel and co. and with those creepy anthropomorphic fellow dogs... well, blergle.

I gotta start reading the manga. The anime got me in.
Now I wanna see what these 140+ chapters of entertainment (continuing) is about.

Same. Also I like the fact I laughed to the point of annoying my brother while I was watching that episode, very good episode, certainly one of my favourites, especially with that memory that I find amusing.
