Title: Pissing me off....
Post by: skycloud on October 14, 2007, 12:54:46 AM
This is really starting to tick me off... Lately I have been watching a butt load of anime in order to find out specific characters I want to draw, so I watch the anime to understand their character better and thus draw them more in character.

This week I watched all of The Melancoly of Haruhi and Lucky Star and last week I watched all of both Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate.

The animes are good dont get me wrong, but as I research more into them I get pissed at what I find...

Haruhi was based off a light novel, but the anime was only based off the first book of the novel aka "The Melancoly" book, with a few added stories from the later works. But from what I research of the novel, it has a mass amount of great stories that would have been great for the anime. But why was it never done? Its so stupid not to do it...

I personally watched this anime in its chronological order, not the way it was aired on TV. I loved it but the way that the climax of the series was actually one of the middle episodes and the actual ending of the series was just well had no closer at all made me feel a littled left out. I dont know if the light novel has/will be translated or not but this story has to have an ending to be seen if it is made into an anime.

I mean the girl is basically God and the anime gave no closer as to what will happen to her or any of the other characters because honestly what will happen when they graduate or something like that?

Haruhi had a huge fan based so it just doesnt add up as to why would you not continue and complete the series...

Another anime, Hellsing, the original run was fairly good but lacked the plot of the manga. But thankfully now they ARE doing the actual Manga version but 2 things are stupid. 1. why did they bother making the first series and not follow the plot and 2. why make it ONLY OVA? I mean its shown that the OVA has even been having delays in production its just gah!!!!!!!!!!!

As for Lucky Star.... well... its good, got no beef with it. Its based of a comic strip with a later manga adaptation so the original is the comic strip and the anime stays true to its ideals so its good. But this is a rare situation...

I just hate how this is going, Full Metal, Excel Saga, all these arent staying true to their real plot and I just dont get it. They leave the person unsatisfied and longing for the real thing. Whats worse is that for those that arent native from their source we might never see the original story or know what this anime or that is based off of...

It just really REALLY pisses me off...

now the reason for the original series loosing the manga plot is simple...the company faced bankruptcy. Hellsing was in production when they realised they had hardly any money left so the made a seperate quick ending then released it. It's proved so succesful that they've recovered and have decided to do the series justice. As for Ultimate being an ova well they really wanted to focus on the story in each volume. the reason for delays well you know how long it takes to do an anime from storyboards and artork and lets not forget hellsing is still being published so they can't exactly rush the anime otherwise they'll do like last time and make a differant ending.

I don't know which you mean when you put full metal but as for the Excel Saga anime Rikudou originally didn't want the anime to follow the manga for the simple fact he had a few surprises for his fans (Elgala for example) so Afro boy pretty much had the reigns when making the anime

Lolz at Incognito in Hellsing (TV).  Worst character in any show ever.

Didn't I hear somewheres that Incognito was created solely as a filler character just to finish off the first Hellsing anime?

You heard correctly.  He is not in the manga and will not be in the OVA series.

I've also heard from many enlightened sources and observations that Incognito does, in point of fact, suck hard ass :P.

I was annoyed with that ending too, but as Hai1 pointed out there are reasons for these differences.  And Haruhi is likely going to continue with the rest of the stories from the light novel, but bear in mind this process takes 1) Time and 2) Money.

By Full metal im sorry I dont mean Full Metal Panic, I mean Fullmetal Alchemist.

I do hope your right about Haruhi, but really why cant they just get it right the first time...

Well, it's not even an issue of getting it "right" the first time.  Many times when a company proposes a project and they are greenlit for production, an amount of money is allocated to the project and the producers must decide just how much they can do with what they have.  An Anime, especially TV anime, doesn't have an enormous budget on average to play with.  So perhaps the producers knew that they would have to make a limited series to begin with, focusing on the first part and get that out there, then see what kind of profit they could make from it.  All signs are that Haruhi was a smashing success both at home and abroad, so I can't believe they wouldn't reinvest some of that profit to keep the train going.  The same happened with FMP I expect, and they already finished their third series and I bet will have more coming since there is still so much more source material from which to draw.

But then again look at all the stupid fillers that they added, like Ingogfag from Hellsing, they could have spent that money to follow the right series then add gay ass characters like that. I bet it even costs more money to make fillers because you have to add dif characters, new storylines, etc.

That would have been awesome, but no chapters with Elgala had been published by the time the anime was finished.

Where did you hear that? O.o

The first ever chapter of Excel Saga was published in Young King OURS in 1997, if I'm correct.

The "Kingdom of Elgala" thing?

He probably just put that in there as a joke (it's named after Fukuoka's Elgala Hall) and then later decided to name a character after it.

Yes, indeed.  That's evident by the presence of the Daitenzin suits in volume 2.

I just dont get why these people allow and in the case of rikdo "want" it to be different! Its not only a insult to the fans of the original work but to the creators themselves!

The stories of the original work are the only true work and should be the only thing in the change to anime, anything less or off ISNT the real work. Its a fake, cheap, imitation that might as well have been done by some half assed fanscript (and god knows ive seen some fanscripts that have kicked anime's ass)

In most cases it's because the manga is still being published (it's like basing a film on a book half written) but some of the anime are better then the manga, a good example being Martian Successor Nadesico. The manga sucks but the anime is a major classic. I never heard of the manga because it wasn't spoken of so when I got all 4 volumes I wasn't surprised why it wasn't spoken much of.

Argh then why dont they just wait until the work is finished, it just helps increase the fanbase more and will be a bigger hit when its finally released

i gotta admit that there are heaps of manga i wish were like the books, but they have to keep note of things like time restriction, popularity of characters, so they can show the popular ones and not the unpopular and whether they realise plot holes and stuff that doesnt make much sense on reflection.
anime that is exactly the same makes the manga boring, but anime that isn't like the book makes the anime boring...they just can't win can they?
what they should do is have the first part in manga and have an anime spinoff that continues the story.

so you wouldn't minded to have waited god knows when until Excel Saga was done (which could be god knows when) to see an anime. I reckon most of us on here got into Excel Saga through the anime.

That is actually very true. Only two anime I have ever seen that I had first read part of the manga before watching it was Karin and Love Hina

Correct.  I would not be typing this very sentence if the anime (actually Puni Puni Poemy, but that's a long story) did not exist.

I just noticed something after rewatching Haruhi again. In the second episode Haruhi makes comment that she has felt that she had met Kyon before.

This being that she HAD in a incident where Kyon went back in time three years and met with Haruhi (and if you know the story, Aliens Espers time travel was brought into creation three years ago). I dont know all the details but apparantly it lead to a change in the future that made Haruhi vanish for a time because Kyon told her a fake name.

I wonder why they would even mention this without following through with this line, but this line does give me hope that the series will continue.

and here it is again! (if you guess, yes im noting this AS im watching it)

Kyon friend makes note of Kyon always liking weird girls this is another note to the novel in that an old childhood friend that went to cram school with Kyon was kinda strange and close to Kyon and got along well with him (but nothing serious) and when she transfers to Kyon's school and rekindles old friendship with Kyon it pisses Haruhi off etc etc.

Why say this and not follow through with it!?

Main article: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (anime)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is the name of the 2006 television anime based on the series of novels, the first of which bears the same name. The anime adaptation, produced by Kyoto Animation, shares the first novel's plotline, interspersed in six self-contained episodes. Intermixed between them were seven episodes based on chapters from the third, fifth and sixth novels. The ninth episode (in broadcast order), "Someday in the Rain", was a new story written specifically for the anime by Nagaru Tanigawa. The first of the fourteen episode series premiered in Japan on April 2, 2006 and aired until July 2, 2006. Notably, these episodes were not originally broadcast in chronological order.[2] There has been news confirming a second season.[3]

Finished it...it's not like it became totally awful at Episode 8 (though I'll agree Incognito was a fairly lame character whose only purpose seemed to be to provide Alucard with someone to fight.)  It just became...no longer brilliant.

Must see the Ultimate OVAs now...

Anime series that veer off from their manga counterparts don't automatically suck (look at Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.) I also remember that from all the changes to the storyline in the FMA anime were made before production was started and they were approved by the original manga-ka (who's name escapes me at the moment. ;_;) I like both series and I think both have their merits (I prefer the manga to the anime overall, though I like the way the homunculi are handled in the anime more than the manga.)

I suppose that is true, but seriously I am now reading the light novel series of Suzumiya Haruhi and learning quite a bit about what the hell was going on in the series.

The anime itself was amazing it was 99.9% intune with the light novel.

But my main reference to this is the second novel "The Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi" in which the novel focused on the making of the movie they did. Reading it I finally understood wtf was going on in some of the scenes of the anime.

That point where Nagato tackled down Asahina and the talking cat as well as some other things were explained. (wont say because it would spoil it)

Hopefully the second season will follow up on this.

The only difference with the novel and the anime was that Haruhi never played the guitar during the festival, she had Nagato do it while she just strictly sung and they did 4 songs
