Yup, physical copies. Though admittedly, they haven't arrived yet. Onikakushi was the only one in stock when I ordered, and those arrive Thursday of this week. The other 4 come in end of this month.
Since Geneon crashed, I doubt they'll be out in English any time soon. But if you want the Japanese copies, try Yesasia. Just do a search for "Higurashi" or "Higurashi nonaku"... since, for some reason, they list them randomly as nonaku instead of no naku.

Got into OMG recently, have vol. 24-28, don't think I'll go for any of the really early ones though, the art is far too old, I just can't stand the 80's style, and the content was pretty well covered by the anime.  That's kind of the problem when the anime is too close to the manga - it kinda removes the reason to read it.

But I'm keeping with the rest of my series, however I have gaping holes in my early volumes of Blade and Berserk, need to fill those some day.
