My housemate bought me the first volume of the Black Butler manga because of my penchant for dressing up as one and doing the dusting, hoovering, washing up, taking out the rubbish and answering the front door.
...
ANYWAY, I flicked through it and found it amusing enough. I had actually been meaning to get into the Black Butler anime (as soon as Funimation lets their videos available in our country) but decided just to google it and see what happened.
I watched the English dub.
As far as English accents go...it's no Hellsing. Mary Poppins perhaps, but nothing particularly authentic from any of them (fairly assumptive as I'm basing this solely on the first episode, but if it's grinding my gears now, I doubt I'll get used to it). J Michael Tatum almost gets there, but it comes off sounding (to me at least) a little too like a particularly acidic Kyoya. Sorry Sebastian, Walter C Dornez is still the head butler, inspite of his lack of tailcoat. On the otherhand the background is very nicely drawn. Cool. Well, back to hibernation. :elhail:

I liked RahXephon. It was definitely slow (as is a LOT of anime, honestly, in my opinion), and it definitely has the Eva thing going on, but I think it really found its eventually and made the show worth the effort.

I'll stick with it and see where it takes me. In truth, I did admittedly leave it at my second year house when I moved in and I have yet to pick it back up because of the work load and the drinking that come with the first week back (Incidentally, the latter of those reasons is why I didn't actually remember writing the above post until the morning :elconfused:). But yes, it is always a rare pleasure to find anime that still have one on tenterhooks after the typically imaginative premise, and I think that more recent anime have been more attentive to this. I'd even go as far as to say that we're entering a golden age of anime. Call me crazy. Go on.

Am still halfway through RahXephon, which if you refer to my last post, is pretty slow going. It's well enough, but I think I prefer the Eva movies in terms of Mech anime. Randamo, you're a connoisseur of Mechs, what do you recommend?

In the meantime, I have decided to continue my foray into ADV dubbed Anime with Noir, which is appreciably subtle. Or at least, more so than the most recent one piece. Another 100 episodes, DONE.

Gankutsuou: the Count of Monte Cristo.
Visually appealing

But hell's bells I loved the story too, so much so that I'm now onto reading Dumas' original and thoroughly enjoying that as well (and okay, I admit it, I'm applying the dub voices to the character's lines in my head. If I come across a character I'm not sure about, I'll just apply some Kirk Thornton.) But yeah, the anime- simply amazing. Not Albert though. Albert's damn annoying. Especially when he

Anyway, I have also procured the first Eden of the East movie. I'll be honest, it felt like it was more of the same sequence of events from the series. That sort of thing might work for School Rumble, but in this case it's a bit lame. Lucky for me (or perhaps not, I don't know) I ordered the series + movie of RahXephon too. I have absolutely no idea what to expect, so I'm looking forward to it tremendously. Or at least I will do after I've finished mucking about on Portal 2.

I never watched it like that, and likely never will.

Recommended. I regret starting this madness.  :elcry:

I used the episode list on wikipedia as a basis for my attempt, but it lists episode 00 as 01 in the DvD order, which completely messed things up a bit, to the extent that I had just finished episode 11 and went looking for a non-existant episode 14, before realising that what I should have watched just now was the DvD episode 10 instead of the DvD episode 11, which I was still meant to be on the way to watching. Anyway, I'm going to try to salvage the situation, but I don't know (and too lazy to find out) if there's any episodes I've left out or if I'll be watching any episodes I've already seen. Quite vexing :hdead:!

I'll ponder on what you've said and come to a conclusion. Cheers :elhail:

Oh man, all this talk has encouraged me to watch the 1st series in the Kyon order, something I've been meaning to do for a while now. Does it truly glean a more satisfying order of events? Only time will tell!

Um...is it worth skipping the Haruhi Suzumiya second season in favour of going straight to the movie?

Serial Experiments Lain with a techno remix of 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'?

Nice.

I suddenly came into the possession of Eden of the East (the series, not the film) earlier today. I've just finished watching it all, and am now suffering from a severe bout of joie de vivre. :ehail:

Meow.

The past few weeks have been pretty bad. How can I fuel my addictions to anime, sharp suits and fine cake if I can't be bothered to find employment?
:elcry:
...
Wait, this is the last anime you've seen thread. :elembarassed: Ahem. So, whilst I wait for the money graciously donated by the government for me to enjoy Outlaw Star and Chobits (which has suddenly become very available over here. When did that happen? o_0) I have been watching Soul Eater. I didn't like the principle characters to begin with, but because they were so endearing after their initial introductions I actually thought they were alright people by the close. And the scenery was bizarre, yet whimsically so. In a similar vein, I've been watching Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. I think I like it, but I'm really confused as to the why. I'm only up to episode 2 or 3, so I'll reserve judgement on that. Haha, I was watching and thought "Hey, it looks a bit like Dead Leaves." Then I looked it up on wikipedia and saw that they both had

I also watched the second Evangelion film (which did arrive on time in the end :elhail:). Can't decide just how I feel about that either, but I will say that I almost felt as if an explaination/backstory or two has been omitted in favour of getting the main bit across. And then there's that Marie character, who (I think I heard this right on the commentary, but if not don't quote me on this!) isn't even in the originals. So, perhaps I ought to look into purchasing the originals after all. The movies are still spectacular though. Except with a capital 'S'. Dinnertime!

I haven't looked extensively, I usually go with amazon...but it was sold in seperate volumes at £20 a piece, used. Apart from volume 5, that was £50, so all a little beyond my meagre income :elconfused:! No region 2 box-sets to be seen either. It's the same situation with Cowboy Bebop. And Chobits is pretty scarce. Actually, when it comes to distributing anime, the UK sucks royally :elannoyed:.
Also, I've finished Durarara and now I'm back to looking for new stuff. Might buy Outlaw Star which looks pretty good, or finally get around to purchasing Eureka Seven. Maybe.

Now that my first year at Uni is over, I have had ample opportunity to indulge in anime whilst we all wait for the end of the world. Again. Speaking of which, I've finally purchased the first Evangelion film- after a couple of months of deliberating whether it was still possible to purchase the original series, I gave up and threw my lot in with the updated version. :elhail: Highly enjoyable! As it was the first film it was mostly concerned with establishing plots and fore-shadowing...but since I didn't watch the original anyway and have refrained from searching for the plot on wiki, I'm looking forward to seeing just what the hell is going on with the second film (which I've pre-ordered but is delayed a little :elcry:). Should be good.

I am currently halfway through Durarara......:eheart:!
I'm saving my coin for the box set, but I don't know how long I can hold out.

Hmm. Alright, I'll give Eureka 7 a try. Thank you for the advice Senior Randamo!  :elhail:

...Still getting through One piece, but slowing down a bit now. The characters are entertaining enough to watch, but the situations (especially the inconsequential ones) they find themselves in feel over-extended in terms of the amount of episodes devoted to them, so that it becomes a chore to get through to the parts of the story that matter.
On the side I've bought The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Complete Season One, just because, as well as finding Serial Experiments Lain volume one in HMV for £7 ( :elvery happy:!) and taking it before anyone else sees. I've also been considering Eureka 7, but whilst I like the look of its trailer, I have yet to find a reliable recommendation to inform my decision making. Meow?
