The last anime I watched, or the last anime I've seen?
Watched Lucky Star last time...same here actually XD Lucky Star all the way
Full Meatl Alchemist the conquerer of Shambala (it finally came yay)I've borrowed that from a friend about two months ago and it's STILL sitting on my desk untouched. ^^;; Time for me to crack it open and watch it soon. Yep.
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.It was pretty dark for sure. Sometimes just kinda sick; Something that's along the lines of how I felt about Elfen Lied - not really a bad thing at all though as I'm always up for some decent suspense/horror. The different story arcs really mess with your head.
I hated it for the first 19 episodes or so, but my friend made me keep watching, and now I'm totally into it and addicted. I'm not sure if this means I would recommend it or not. :e_confused:
My dad saw the Dvd cover but he didn't freak out. That was weird.

if not my favorite.

Why would you expect him to freak out..?
Just bought the Outlaw Star collection, and now for the first time watching it in the original Japanese, uncut, like I was never able to with its run on AS.Outlaw star is just awsome!!
I swore I'd never watch Naruto (I've been disappointed by too many super-popular animes) but I am, and finding it very funny and enjoyable. Naruto's a bit annoying, but it's not the fighting-centric show I thought it would be.
watching fruits basket
With the release of the dub, I've finally gotten around to watching that popular show, Death Note. It's pretty interesting so far, and I like the dubbed voices.
I just finished watching the final episode of Cowboy Bebop. Spike dying saddens me, though at least he went out like the badass that he is.
Bang.

Liek OMG j00 ruind teh edning. >:(
Nah, just kidding. Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite shows of all time.
Seriously, though, it's like 'Aeris dies' now. The plot twist that's not really a plot twist anymore.
I didn't know how it ended, but it's not a favorite of mine anyway, and the ending sounds typical. :P

Lolz, a hentai site is named Aeris Dies. That's what you find when you google it. D:I didn't know how it ended, but it's not a favorite of mine anyway, and the ending sounds typical. :P
It wasn't that typical back when it was made.
Wait, Aeris dies?!?!??!!??!?!?!
Kidding.
I watched it with a friend, who is a psychology major in college, and he loved it. Now I have to get the manga...dammit...yet one more. I already have the anime volume 2 w/box on pre-order.
I just watched all of Death Note.
(snip)
Finally, I saw Puni Puni Poemy. It's beautiful. Brings a tear to my eye.
I get it, even if I didn't really laugh at all of the jokes (cringed at many). I'll just say that it is something that should have been made, and was.
Offensive and crass, in so many ways. I enjoyed it.
E^D
Just finished rewatching Dokuro-Chan. God, I love that anime, it truly is the most F*ed up ever made, if only they'd bring it over. And since it's so short, it should be a cheap buy, unless they are really cheap arse with how they dole out the whole 12 15 min episodes of the entire series - I mean, one disc would do.
Full metal panic fumoffu? at the moment.Tha's a good'un.
I have to admit, sometimes I want something a little gentler in tone from my normal fare. That's the same reason I've been watching Kanon. It's pretty much a light-hearted soap opera, and that's nice sometimes.

Words from the wise: If you want light hearted, don't accidentally confuse School Rumble with School Days. That was a baaaaad couple of days =(
Never seen fclc, or how ever it should be prenouced, but I have heard it is funny.
I thought Elfen Lied was great.
As shocking as it was touching, I really enjoyed it. There aren't too many series' that make me cringe at some parts, while getting misty-eyed in others (sometimes both, during the same scene). The deep feelings between each of the characters only makes the bloody violence seem more unnecessary, and all the more horrible.
E^d
But I love both series, and agree that Elfen Lied had some very touching scenes, and plenty of disturbing ones - and frankly, the whole cousin relationship was a bit eewwin japan even though it's very rare it isn't against the laaw to marry ones cousin (gross it might be but they can still do it)
While I must say I prefer Higurashi to Elfen Lied, I got rather annoyed when the two were compared. The only similarity they had between each other was a level of gore, and that was only in the main part of the 1st season of Higurashi, then I would see people griping about Kai and saying "Where's the gore?" Urgh, stupid.
I do think the cousinly love in a lot oof these animes is creepy, I do think it was a piity that they only did 13 episodes of elfen lied and since I am from the uk, I never got to see this supposed episode 14 they released.Actually, it was something like an episode 9.5 (or somewhere around there). It's just a side story.
The brevity of Elfen Lied I think enhanced its intensity - a LOT went on in those few episodes, but it didn't feel that rushed.I have no explanation for why I don't like Elfen Lied. I just... didn't like it. I saw every episode, too.
And yes there IS a story, but yeah it's definitely not an anime for everyone. But I buy very few anime series, and after I rented the whole series there was no power in the verse what was going to stop me from owning it. I very rarely feel that way about any show, anime or otherwise. I own about 12 series, and I've never regretted buying a single one - I buy only what I love.
Now I'd absolutely adore buying Higurashi (please someone else pick it up!)I'd buy each disc on the day it was released. D:
I have no explanation for why I don't like Elfen Lied. I just... didn't like it. I saw every episode, too.

Well you have no real reason to justify what you don't like - sometimes something just rubs us the wrong way. We might not be able to put a finger on why, but there it is. Opponents of Elfen Lied often leveled claims that the plot was too contrived, the characters were unrealistic in how they dealt with the incredible, and the nudity and gore was presented as being artistic, but that it was little more than a cover for exploitative material. I can see how all these points are made, but I feel differently, especially since the nudity that was shown was never really erotic - it didn't have any sort of ecchi feel, and for me that's what the difference was. It was an unusual situation for an anime with such a large amount of nudity, but it never felt like it was there for fanservice purposes. Others argue, however, and that is fine. The scenes with nudity were usually uncomfortable to watch through the context, and some of the death scenes really got to me... I've been known to get woozy if I look at a deep cut or real gore, but in a few scenes, I actually felt a little dizzy, and had to look away. I was surprised by that reaction to what is essentially a cartoon. That uncomfortable twinge extends through every part of the story.
Me too, anyone here a naruto fan, prehaps sommeone can tell me if that battle between sasuke and naruto is truly worth waiting for.I watched Naruto for a while, then kind of got bored with it. I dunno, it just drags things out too long; they're always waiting for something to happen, and when they do fight, meh. I do enjoy the manga a bit more, but not enough to actually buy the collected volumes. What's printed in Shonen Jump is good enough for me.
Not been watching much anime, well clone wars, buut thats more for the kids and starwars wierdos like myself.
Anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, join us or die
:kabapu-1: Just finished "The Special Duty Combat Unit: Shinesman" and "Dragon 1/2"! Both are worth their weight in gold....Humor for humor's sake and only the one disk's worth of episodes ever created for each!!!Soo sad...Dragon Half was pretty damn funny. I got it in a Best Buy 2-pack with Puni Puni Poemy, and enjoyed both immensely. They're still selling it... in Northeast New Jersey, at least.
Then I had to give the TV over to the family, ahh... the humanity of it all.
Yes anime, anime and more anime, started to watch eureka 7 again, not too bad, just waiting for the last two volumes to be released now.
Commander, execute order 666
Do like Karin, its just a bit unfornate that my anime import dealer is closed down now.
its just a bit unfornate that my anime import dealer is closed down now. That would definately suck. There's a lot of other people here on the forum from the UK as well who experience some problems obtaining a variety of licensed anime locally. Hopefully this is something that will change for the better in the near future. Just as long as demand is strong, supply should reflect that. Hopefully.
also I watched BLEACHI'm up to episode 130 now. Overall, Bleach has been a good entertaining series for me. Don't understand why some complain so much about the story arcs, "bad" episodes, etc. The level of quality with animation and story has been fairly consistant considering just how long this series has run.
Currently watching le portrait pettite cossette, an anime I truelly appreciate, as its stylish and fairly creepy, and I am watching it while typing this.I didn't care for Nurse Witch Komugi at all, but then I may have already mentioned that earlier in this thread. I think it was only 6 episodes long, because it came and went from The Animé Network really quickly.
I have one question on one anime I own Nurse witch komugi is that all the episodes they produced for it 6,.
even if the main female character is a bit of an idiot.
I've never seen such blatent and frequent fanservice.

Just got myself the first volume of hell girl, unfortunately I haven't got around to seeing it yet.I haven't seen it yet either, but a friend recently told me about it. Something about those who want to exact revenge on certain people can contact some girl via website to have them sent to hell. It apparently comes with a price however.
Oh, Rika-chama, go read Ichigo 100%, you'd probably like it (makes me cry ;_;)
QuoteOh, Rika-chama, go read Ichigo 100%, you'd probably like it (makes me cry ;_;)
I'll wikipedia it and see if it sparks my interests :elhail:
I've also been meaning to watch Kaiji. I've heard it's good but I'm trying to finish MariMite first :il_hahaha:
Ni-paa~
Just watched the 3rd and 4th volumes of Full Metal Panic. For some reason i watch it more for the comedy than the giant robots. Then you should check out Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, it's almost all comedy.
But hearing spoilers for the novels past what TSR covered makes me want to facepalm from how stupid the plot's gotten after it's gotten serious.
Kaiji's supposed to be pretty good, or so I hear. But don't watch Akagi, by the same fellow... it's boring as all hell
Also, I just bought/saw Metropolis. It's pretty epic.Best use of a Ray Charles recording anywhere, ever, period.
I should watch "Fist.o.t.n.s." as it is part of the great anime theme and highly spoofed in Excel Saga.I can't find anything on this "Arjunia", and you've got me curious. Where can I find it?
:kabapu-1: However...
They should make people who want to not be addicted to anything watch "Arjunia" as part of the 13 step of the 12 step program.
"Soylent Green" is a lighthearted musical comedy compared to "Arjunia" :e_crying:
It is just such a very well done anime- BUT depressingly so predictable about how everyone is messing up the planet...Sometimes, a depressing story is what you need.
Hence I was surprised that Mr. A. Gore didn't include it in his movie about climate change. :kabapu-1:
Just started watching the series Read or Die
Just watched New Dominion Tank Police.
Where's the Serial Experiments Lain stuff? Evangelion? The psycho crap that makes no sense, that's what I love!
Starting "Lost Universe", liked most of the "Slayers" Series but we'll see!
Sorcerer Hunters was complete shite, I saw a similar deal at a shop here, so I rented the first disc just in case. Yeah, crap on a stick. Alas when I see a complete series for under $30 it is usually that way for a reason, the one exception for me being Rune Soldier.
Le Chevalier D'Eon is very good, but avoid the dub - the main characters are well done, but the secondary characters are often horrible, especially Cagliostro - god, whoever did his voice I just wanted to smack him.
Chevalier D'eon--I got only halfway through it before I decided not to spend any more library budget than necessary on full-priced new releases. It was gorgeous and exciting, though it took severe liberties with history. (For example, the real Robespierre would have been about 5 years old at the time.)
So what's this anime network? What do you have (comcast, att&t, satellite? is it just called 'the anime network'?) If I have it I'd definitely check it out (I don't watch TV very much so I'm not sure what the hell I have... other than we just changed to ATT&T so I'm still figuring out all the channels).I have Cablevision's IO digital cable, and they carry Animé Network (heretofore referred to as AN) as part of their On Demand service. You can start any episode that is available, at any time. I've had AN since December, and have been posting the shows I've seen on it, starting from page 9 of this thread.http://www.excelsagaforum.com/index.php?topic=676.msg35984#msg35984 (http://www.excelsagaforum.com/index.php?topic=676.msg35984#msg35984)
Don;t look at me, I don't have anything but network, and that's fuzzy. :D
Watching Sorcerer Hunters now. I had heard of it long ago when I was looking for more fantasy/comedy series, but never been able to find it. Yesterday I poked around the used-video store and they had the complete four-disc set for $17, so, in spite of already having blown way more anime money this month than I really could afford, I splurged.
Not quite my cup o tea so far, I'm afraid.
Two episodes of Magikano. And it's a piece of shit.Yeah, it was- all of it. I likened it to a train wreck: so awful, I couldn't turn away. The ending is just as pathetic as the beginning... and the middle.
That higurashi one, I thought the first 4 episodes made no sense, becasue how the hell are they alive in episode 5 when rena and her mate are beaten to death by keiitic (don't ask) who in turn dies in the phone box of an overdose, bloody weird
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. It's epic.Indeed.
I'm thinking about checking out Paranoia Agent... I saw the series on Adult Swim way back when, and I remember NOT liking at all. However, when I look back it seems like the type of anime I should have LOVED since it's was all reality-defying and psycho... but I dunno. I don't really want to run out and buy the box set, but I don't want to watch it online. Damn. Hmmm...... maybe I should just go with what I remember about not liking it and leave it alone.
Came across an amusing little one 'He is my master' in jap and subbed but quite funny all the same, not to sure at the moment about that fclc, not impressedI wasn't impressed by either of the two, to be honest. >_>
"Media Blasters head John Sirabella announced on the Anime on DVD forums that his company has acquired the Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan television comedy anime series, which has eight 13-minute episodes. Sirabella did not specify if the acquisition also includes the Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan Second video sequel series of four more 13-minute episodes."
I just watched "Lucky Star".......I hope it gets better. or someone can explain it to me.
I just watched "Lucky Star".......I hope it gets better. or someone can explain it to me.Getting "better" would imply that it actually becomes "good." No, Lucky Star is bland and boring from start to finish. I do admit that there are some actually funny parts in the second half of the series, though not enough to make it worth watching.
QuoteI just watched "Lucky Star".......I hope it gets better. or someone can explain it to me.
Yeah, I don't "get it" either, and I could say more but I'm fantastically drunk and rather surprised I managed to type "fantastically" with only four minor corrections before I actually post this worthless comment, not to mention the fact that I type fantastically (yet again) with quotation marks the second time I typed it, and then referencing it with a third mention with a parenthetical and completely pointless comment thereafter. In fact I shouldn't be typing at all, but since I am and I don't seem to be stopping for the moment perhaps someone else can explain this because I think I lost my train of thought and I'm about to hit 'Post' even though by all rights I shouldn't, but that's impaired judgment for you, and I am shocked I spelled all that correctly (thank you Firefox) in this state. And now I shall fall over.
I agree. That was an epic win post if I've ever seen one. Awesome. :il_hahaha:QuoteI just watched "Lucky Star".......I hope it gets better. or someone can explain it to me.

A+ Post, will read again.
Who cares if you didn't get lucky star, you must admit it is funnyToo true. The formula of Lucky Star is somewhat similar to Azumanga Daioh - A good amount of the time it's about nothing. Don't even try to understand and merely go with the flow. Should you try to wrap your head around Lucky Star, I won't be responsible for any psychiatric bills incurred.

I am really digging Angelic Layer. I wish I had a customized Angel to battle with...
I'm just figuring out, now, that CLAMP can do no wrong. I've enjoyed everything of theirs, that I've seen.
E^D
DearS was not a CLAMP production, it was by Peach Pit, and DearS was a seriously disturbed series when you get down to what it was really about.Yeah, I couldn't get past the first volume of DearS.

What exactly is DearS about? I've heard it's a very love-it-or-hate-it series, even more so than the Excel Saga anime. Gunslinger Girl. It really was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to the second season due for US release in '09, although the new artstyle looks kinda shitty from the few screenshots I've seen.
GSG Il Teatrino is pretty disappointing though. Mostly because of poor quality animation and music sucking all the atmosphere out of the series. While the first season was more realistic in terms of character designs and backgrounds, Il Teatrino is more pastel and cartoony. As well as action scenes that cut away from explosions just to avoid animating them. That is a terrible thing to happen to such a great series. My friend and I really enjoyed the first series. You could tell that it was made with great care.
Yeah, that's what I thought based on the couple screenshots I've seen.
You've seen the whole series?
By the way Mr Elric, your passages on those two animes provide great info, thanks.
By the way there is only 6 episodes of fclc or however the hell you pronouce it, bought my self the melancholy of suzumiya haruhi volume 3, much better in english
I didn't say FLCL had more than 6 eps, I'm talking about how Gurren Lagann is a blend of FLCL and Big-Robo anime.I am going to wait for the dubbed DVDs to be released. I have a friend who is legally blind, though he does have some vision. While he can, and does, watch animé with me, there is no way he can read subtitles. Being that he is one of my only friends that is willing to take a chance on an unknown animé, I have no problem waiting.
Also, I am up tp ep. 22 or GL, and it is... different. Ep. 7 really surprised me, and the whole thing took another big change at 17, and got kinda redonkulous, but I am still curious enough to finish it. It's very odd though.
I just keep watching school rumble XD does anyone know where I can get the soundtrack I love itTry RightStuf, they might have the soundtracks. Have you read School Rumble Z yet?
I will watch that "Boogiepop phantom" when I can get ahold of it....I'm watching "Kujibiki Unbalance" for the Genshiken eps. at the end...sighBoogiepop Phantom is so worth it. I'm watching in on Animé Network, so I'm only up to episode 6. My friend Paul has been really into it, as well.
they should just do another season of "Genshiken" and just finish it with the manga!
I also lost a bet and have to watch the entire "Magic User's Club"
Gambling is bad :pedronooo:
Been watching Candy Boy. An ONA about two twin sisters who just started college and are VERY close. It's pretty good although the shoujo-ai incest stuff might weird people out. I love it
Watched the last four episodes of Angelic Layer last night.I know what you mean. Angelic Layer was an all-round enjoyable series to watch. When first watching, I was afraid it was gonna turn into a Pokémon-esqe type of storyline - but no. This was not at all the case and was so much more beyond that.
It was so happy, I almost cried. This series is what good animé is all about. I laughed, I felt sad, and was literally sitting on the edge of my seat in a mix of anticipation and amazement.
The Hikaru Vs. Wizard fight is the best fight scene in the series, and puts any DBZ fight scene to shame. The characters have truly grown and changed through their experiences. But mostly anything out there could put a DBZ fight scene to shame. :e_wink: Constipated-sounding power ups do nothing for me.
Higurashi/When They Cry is going to be re-released in the U.S. at the end of September. I can't wait.I can't wait either. Or rather, I am waiting for a bit just to see if any mention of re-releasing it as a thinpak happens. I doubt that'll happen yet though.

I would highly recommend this series to anyone.
But mostly anything out there could put a DBZ fight scene to shame. :e_wink: Constipated-sounding power ups do nothing for me.That's why I used it as a basis. DBZ was one of my first introductions to "popular" animé. My friends that do/did watch animé were all into it, buying the dvds and all... I lost interest kind of quick. All the Angelic Layer fights are intense, while seeming realistic; for being just a bunch of animated dolls, that is. :e_wink:
Of course, I say this being hypocritical of myself since I used to watch it quite a bit back in the day. Very difficult to watch it now though! :il_hahaha:
I can't wait either. Or rather, I am waiting for a bit just to see if any mention of re-releasing it as a thinpak happens. I doubt that'll happen yet though. From what I've seen by checking the Best Buy and Amazon sites, vols. 1-4 will be released Sept. 30th, with vol. 5 out Nov. 11th.
Just started Evangelion. Yes, I'm very late, I know. I've seen about half the episodes and End of Evangelion before, but that was like 5 years ago and completely out of order.I've never seen it. I would like to, but there was always something else to get at the time.
Watched five episodes of RahXephon. An interesting take on an old theme, maybe? I like it! It's sci-fi-eerie.
ROBOT JOX,I've seen it twice. Once when I was too young to know better, and again, just to remind myself just how terrible it really is.

^^I made my way through a good part of the series, it started to get tiring for me... I just never bothered finishing it I guess.Hm, same here. I watched a bunch of episodes, but never followed through with it.
5 Centimeters Per Second.Now that's a title I've never heard of.
Stunning. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

What a lovely movie... I recommend you watch it. Instant classic.5 Centimeters Per Second. Now that's a title I've never heard of.
Stunning. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.
Would you say it's a must-see?
im toying with the idea of watching higurashi no naka koe, but i'm a bit worried about the violence. It has hardly any violence at all, honestly. There are about five violent scenes in the entire series, all of which are in the first season.
*inches into topic*Hell yes it was. :im_nabeshin:
I just watched Nerima Daikon Brothers, it was pretty epic...

Alright, everyone, I need your help. I'm about to finish Akagi (which is fucking awesome. Fucking. Awesome.), and I need to know what to watch next. I have Trigun, Ghost In The Shell, and Blood+ sittin' on my hard drive. Which one do I watch first?
I like both dark stuff and fun stuff equally, so that's not an issue for me. ;) As for Ghost In The Shell, I have both movies and both seasons of SAC (plus SSS). Thank you, though. :)Alright, everyone, I need your help. I'm about to finish Akagi (which is fucking awesome. Fucking. Awesome.), and I need to know what to watch next. I have Trigun, Ghost In The Shell, and Blood+ sittin' on my hard drive. Which one do I watch first?
I liked Blood+, but it is a little heavy. I haven't seen a lot of it, but as far as I can remember, the episodes that I did see were pretty grim, and violent. If you're not in the mood for it, I'd say Trigun is a little more fun. I haven't seen most of it, but what I did watch I really enjoyed. Ghost In The Shell movies, manga, I like. S.A.C., not so much. But that's just personal preference.

From what I've read of your previous posts, we do!
Reading back a page--E^D Crow, sounds like we like a lot of the same stuff! :D
Worst anime ending ever for me was Spiral. Great series, lots of suspense and mystery with enough comedy to keep it fun. But the manga went on long beyond the TV show, so they had the kids catch ONE of the guys who was after them (not even an important character) and tried to make it feel like victory and closure, with all the mysteries still unsolved and questions unanswered and bad guys waitng to kill them.
Watched the first devilman ova, still in my books a classicThat was among one of the first few anime dvds I ever bought. I was a mere fledgling otaku-in-training back then.
I just Watched PaniPoni Dash Volume 2 DVD...
Finally got it in mail, took like forever, but it was funnn...
Luckily i already have Volume 3, since it came here before vol 2, so i can continue right away, but right now i'm having a break...
I ordered Vol 4 too... This is some fun stuff, and the art style and animation are alot better than i had expected from this series...
A special OVA has also been announced to be bundled with DVD box-set containing the anime series and set to be released on March 25, 2009.[5]
They're releasing a boxsetof it..? wtfrizzle..?
Goddamnit, if i knew... There's already one box, sort of, but it's only coming with a special volume 2 DVD, and not with all volumes, and it's all region 1 too... I'm getting all mine individually on play.com, really cheap, and in region 2 format...
I wonder if the upcoming boxset has any new things coming along with it...
[edit:]
I just checked wikipedia, and saw this:QuoteA special OVA has also been announced to be bundled with DVD box-set containing the anime series and set to be released on March 25, 2009.[5]
Whaaaa..! They better release those individually too, THEY BETTER..!
Recently I bought Desert Punk in the slim pak, and I used to dislike it for its crudity, but all of a sudden I love it. It grew on me, and sometimes it's just fun to lose yourself in weird, pervy humor. And the English dialogue and script is way better IMO. Purists will be mad, but frankly humor doesn't always translate well, and the English script is really snappy and funny. Also re-watching Rune Soldier again for the upteenth time, but it never gets old.Desert Punk is one of my favorites. There are two lines that always pop up in my head, and they're both from the same episode:
Watched The Girl who Leapt Through Time--pretty good.I agree, good movie!
Tried to watch The Place Promised in our Early Days, but the beginning bored me and I never got back to it.I thought it was nice. The pacing was slow, but that didn't bother me. You might want to give it a chance some other time.
Saw the first disk of UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, which was fairly good.Saw it one Animé Network. Really funny, but I don't think I would buy it. I will watch it again, if they put it up again.
I'm also gradually watching xxxHolic, which is a lot of fun so far, but very popular in the library right now, so that I have to wait for the disks to come in.xxxHolic is definitely on the top of my list of favorites. Great, great series. It's almost a shame that it couldn't be directly related to Tsubasa, but I don't think it takes anything away from the story. Besides, I have the manga of both to check out the crossovers.
I just picked up the Rune Soldier slim-set for $35 (not a bad deal). I have to wait to finish watching it, though, as a friend of mine is also into it. He has a lower tolerance for animé and he has very poor vision (I can watch for a few hours, he can only watch a few episodes). Rune Soldier is great.
Watched Kamichu over the weekend. Cute, about a schoolgirl who becomes a god.Seriously? Jeeeze... Sounds almost like Haruhi Suzumiya again. O.o

I may have to investigate Kamichu to see how they both differ.
I watched the rest of School Rumble, and it was as much fun as when I first started watching anime and was discovering great series like Fruits Basket, Azumanga Daioh and Excel Saga. Also, Kenji Harima makes it on to my list of most awesome anime characters (which is far harder to get on than my Favorite Anime list.)I was this ->?<- close to picking up School Rumble season one... I think I must see this show.
Now, on to the rest of XXXholic, Genshiken and Best Student Council! Whee! :DHow I enjoyed Best Student Council and xxxHolic. Only read the Genshiken manga, though.
Watching Detroit Metal City now, after loving the live action movie.
Shit is so cash.
I believe there are plans to bring the movie over here, and you can pre-order the manga from Amazon.com. I'd only assume that bringing the anime series over would be the next logical step. ;)Watching Detroit Metal City now, after loving the live action movie.
Shit is so cash.
Still haven't seen the movie. Loved the series though, but I don't think I caught all the episodes. You know if there's any plans on a North American release?
Strangely, I got started on it because someone suggested it as an anime with a curry-related episode, and I'm seeking curry scenes for an AMV. (I also have scenes from Best Student Council, Galaxy Angel A and Z and Azumanga Daioh--if you remember a good scene with curry in an on-DVD anime, please pm me!)Most of Those Who Hunt Elves, because Junpei is OBSESSED with curry; Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful, Ep06 Doing Delightful New Year Things has a funny curry-related scene.
i've bought genshiken, but i've only started watching the kujibuki unbalance ovas that came with it. I don't get it yet.You can't get the Kujibiki Unbalance OVAs. There are only 3 made, and they are far between.
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi...
Great fun, still have to watch the whole thing though...
I watched a little Gatchaman today--what a blast from the past! I was a Battle of the Planets fan in high schoolSame here. And even earlier than high school. Kids would fake being sick to stay home from school to see it weekdays. :il_hahaha:
Now I've started on Negima! which is total cuteness: he's like the illegitimate son of Harry Potter and Chiyo-chan. :DI saw Negima! just recently. It has a whimsical type feel throughout the series. Fun to watch from episode to episode.
Hmm, not too many of us watching anime this week, eh?heh... I watch it nearly every week but neglect to post about it. ^^;; Oops..
Checked out all the episodes of Golden Boy. Loved the english dub of Kintaro but atAh, memories... :il_hahaha:
first i wasn't too impressed. Liked the 1st and 3rd episodes, but i didn't like the
perverted girls. Especially motorbike girl. :e_confused:
Watched the crappy db gt only movie last night, I kind a forgot I had it in my collection, talk about crap, and to be honest even the gt series was shit, I did like the super 17 saga, but that was about it.Seems that many people prefer to think that GT never existed. It was a mistake to continue Dragonball without Toriyama at the helm.
I still love the opening song... I sing it out loud, at work, because some of the rooms have great acoustics, or machinery running very loudly so it drowns out my awful singing voice. X^DSometimes I do the very same thing at work with catchy opening and ending songs which get stuck in my head.

saw the beginning ep of urusei yatsura. the beginning work of rumiko takashi, so the art and story's not as good as she gets. I do enjoy the hero's perviness. I love seeing him incline his head to check out girls with that big grin on his face.
I admit that i like anime perverts. That's why I liked genshiken so much. And did you hear that a new genshiken manga will come out? It's called return of the otaku.
I do agree gt should never have been made, and I am also sure I heard a rumour that another dragonball series was going to be made, don't no if that's true though. There's a (sort of) new one now called Dragon Ball Kai. It's currently up to 13 episodes. The downside is that it's just a re-telling of Dragon Ball Z in a shorter format. The animation doesn't look updated. I'm not even sure why they made this. O_o
Are there any animes out there with Yankis (juvenile delinquents)? Cause i love that style too.One that immediately came to mind was School Rumble (only because I've been watching it recently).
Are there any animes out there with Yankis (juvenile delinquents)? Cause i love that style too.
i keep telling myself to get cromartie high. i'll check that out. Cause i already have school rumble. Are there plans to release more than the second season?Of School Rumble?
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid.
Goddamn, when is KyoAni gonna' make more FMP?
The light novels after it are even better. ;)Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid.
Goddamn, when is KyoAni gonna' make more FMP?
That's what I'd like to know. TSR was my favorite of the series, hands down. Need more like that.
Never really got into the fmp thing saw the first series (boring), but i like fmp ffumoffu.Yeh, FMP S1 is kinda' boring, but I still liked it. Fumoffu, TSR, and the novels are really great, though.
I just watched Shuffle! Somewhat atypical, fan-service loaded, harem comedy/drama. It has the usual sappiness and boredom that most harem shows have, but it takes a bit of a darker turn during the second half of the series; some of the girls turn out to have split-personalities, and one is borderline psychotic.
Not great, but not terrible. I enjoyed it, for what it was. I would have been disappointed, but because I was not expecting much, I was a bit surprised that I even liked it at all.

*is currently watching Kurau: Phantom Memory*
It's a really great show so far.
I watched one episode, I'd never seen a Harem before. I was laughing at the end at how absolutely ridiculous it was.It was ridiculous! Especially because it started taking itself so seriously. I consider this another train-wreck animé, where I just had to see it through.
I watched one episode, I'd never seen a Harem before. I was laughing at the end at how absolutely ridiculous it was.I am finally going to finish Gurren Lagann! I want to savor those last 4 episodes, so I'm waiting a bit (as if I haven't waited long enough).

I just got done watching the Disgaea anime, really odd but very entertaining. I love the Prinnies ^_^
I completely disagree with all the FMA series nay-sayers. I LOVE that show, I think it develops amazingly. Just because it differs from the manga people seem to go all apeshit (that goes for other shows as well).
a bit off-topic, but I don't like the later volumes of ouran high as much, it wasn't as light-hearted or funny as it used to be. And i really liked Tamaki at the start, but I find myself of the Hikaru side in the newest chapters.
Yes he does and yes he has a weird little puppet called belzinef the curse doll

So... Like... I've been a fan of Sailor Moon for a long while and someone mentioned a spoof called "Sexy Sailor Soldiers" and provided a link to it. What the jerk didn't tell me was that it's Hentai. I've never seen one unless you count when I was rick-rolled with Night Shift Nurses clips but I stuck with it until it got to the tentacles. *shudders*
Since I pay for the Animé Network, I've decided to watch Daphne In the Brilliant Blue. It's... Uh... Almost tolerable? The fan-service is amazingly prolific and inappropriate. It reminds me of a Bizarro-Saiyuki: the future, with strippers and an air-head, instead the past, with demi-demons and a monk. It has its moments, few and far between, but I like to torture myself, so I think I'll watch it until the end.
I bought that series since it was cheap. Yes, it's awkard to watch sometimes, some characters are ugly and badly designed and most of the characters have THE most repulsive outfits. I'm glad that some women pointed out that Yuu looked like a slut (she also had a baby with her at the time, so her embarrassment was paramount). I did like the OVA or extra eps they have where the do an informative video on Nerieds and one where Gloria and Maya switch bodies. To be fair, the ending is unexpectedly deep (or something?) and it felt like a cool series by then, but do you feel like waiting? You know, I think I see what you mean. After a bunch more episodes, it's starting to grow on me. Sure, some of the characters' faces/head shapes look...odd, and they run around needlessly (almost) naked (even their "normal" clothes are strangely vacant of material), but it is becoming quite funny along with the action. When Yu Park basically fist-hammered the one guy's face into the wall for pulling a gun on Rena, so hard that "He'll be in a coma for days", that really made me laugh. I think I'll keep watching it through until the end.
Last 2 things I saw were full metal panic fumoffu volume 2 and batman mask of the phantasm ( I know it ain't technically anime but who cares)
I find it very boring and stupid. The magic fights are the epitome of lame, the "mature" content is there just for the sake of it, there is almost no character development, and after episode 7 the series forgoes its creepy atmosphere and intriguing story for Troma-level cheesiness. Except this is supposed to be serious.
Then again, I never liked Haruhi either, so most anime fans will probably disagree with me.
I also bought the Lucky Star OVA, which was...OK. Just OK. I love the series, but there was something off about the OVA. Not nearly as funny, and some scenes seemed to really drag along. The ending with Akira and Minoru was also pretty bad. I would have rather seen an animated Lucky Channel at the end.I know what you mean. I was expecting a lot more as an OVA. It really managed to cut itself short on quality storytelling. >_< Only a few laughs here and there. Just nothing exciting as a whole.

Finished Toradora and the second season sure was different. It got all serious with fighting scenes, blood and people yelling at each other. The major fight scene between the Student Pres and Aisaka was brutal. It felt real though, in a teenagers-are-idiots-who-kill-each-other-over-their-crushes way. I did get interested about the the subplot where Ryuji tries to decide what to do with his future. I didn't think it was such a big deal if he wanted to just get a job and not go to college. He's a simple kid, he would've been fine with that. In the end, they never clarified what he ended up doing. Maybe i have to read the novel...Only saw the very first episode myself as I was curious to what the commotion was all about with it.
But i probably ruined it for you at this point anyway.Yes, I think you did. Not because of spoilers though - it just sounds like it gets very... messed up! :il_hahaha:
And while it may have had a good message under it all, I feel that its reliance on shock value to get its points across was completely unnecessary and that the characters could have been fleshed out a lot more.
I don't think it was RELYING on shock value at all. I loved the depth to the show, not the violence. It really felt like it was to me. Especially the first episode.
It really felt like it was to me. Especially the first episode.
Hmm, it was a very good series, it was ashame elfen lied was a little too short, I felt 13 episodes was not enough. I did like when they revealed the final di-clonius, certainly saw that one coming.
Is there any decent anime you can recommend on it's way to the U.K. I need anime
If you haven't seen it yet, Ergo Proxy was a pretty good series. Very dark but with some odd humor splashed in, you have to watch it at least twice to pick up on the things you missed the first time through, but it was a good, mature series. Last newer anime I really cared much for.Would you recommend this to buy? The series boxed set has been staring at me at my local HMV for the past few months. I've been cautious because I've heard people say that it's one of those series that you're either going to like or just hate.

I saw episode one a long time ago, but maybe I should see more first.
I highly recommend The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. An all-around great movie. It certainly is. Got it as a Christmas gift and I just watched it this morning. Brilliant!
on the other hand I am currently watching happy lesson, and I haven't seen it for a while.
Watched the first volume of the weird lesbian love triangle anime kashimashi, I like it but I still do not know why the fuck I bought it in the first place, I blame newtypeI read a bit of the manga online, by chance, and bought both the manga and the animé. The animé is kind of a watered-down version of the manga, with a few changes that really effect the story. I liked it, but I'm a sucker for yuri, anyway. :e_embarassed:
After fighting a battle with myself on whether or not I should buy Ergo Proxy, I finally gave in during this Boxing Week sale. I found myself at HMV with three copies of The Complete Collection staring me down, beckoning me to buy one with 20% off stickers on them. Couldn't resist. I usually try to treat myself to something after Christmas anyways.
I've only watched episode one, but damn, does it ever feel a lot like the Blade Runner movie. This is not a bad thing at all! Hope the rest of the series delivers just as well.
Puni Puni Poemy.Yeah... quite hyper, wasn't it? O_o lol!
...WTF was that?
Anyway, I realized why I thought that sister with the large chest seemed so familiar. At first I was thinking Miwa for obvious reasons but upon watching the two episodes I think her face looks a lot like Hyatt's.Very much so.
This is by far the anime medium's magnum opus. Mars of Destruction is the best animated movie I've seen in years, if not ever. In terms of science-fiction related media, this blows other greats such as Heinlein's works, Battlestar Galactica, and Neon Genesis Evangelion out of the water. Truly an experience I will never forget, and oh, what an experience it was!
Story: 10/10
This film is highly philosophical. I actually felt regret when the Big Bad Ancient Guy told Random Armored Cop Dude that the humans were the true invaders of Earth. This plot twist was stunning and, on the whole, thought-provoking. It was like something written by Kafka.
Art/Animation: 10/10
This movie is so amazing that it actually makes DEEN's animation look like Madhouse by comparison. It gave me more appreciation for other anime titles! I love you, Mars Of Destruction!!!
Sound: 10/10
The voice acting is absolutely perfect. When the characters yell each other's names repeatedly you will FEEL the emotion. The OST recorded by Beethoven himself is also marvelous. He did an excellent job, as always.
Characters: 10/10
The characters are all equally well-done, from Green Hair Girl to Blue Hair Girl; it's so easy to tell them apart! I especially enjoyed the doctor's dialogue, as I would not have known that the girl whose head exploded was dead without his helpful reminder that "she won't make it."
Enjoyment: 10/10
This picture is absolutely riveting on every level! I could watch it over and over and never get bored!
Overall: 10/10
Run, don't walk, to your nearest YouTube to catch this masterpiece as soon as possible! You won't regret it!
The OST recorded by Beethoven himself is also marvelous. He did an excellent job, as always.
Ultimate hellsing 3 so far is the best in terms of being the funniest and bloodiest I have seen for a while in anime. The first three are absolutely amazing, but 4 and 5 leave a lot to be desired, IMO.
Oddly enough I watched that dubbed version of sailor moon when they put it on Uk equivilent foxkids, and I must say after reading new type I really wanted to get hold of the boxset, but to no avail.
It would be nice to know if the uk is getting at least hellsing ultimate volumes 5 and 6,There's been a painfully long wait for these. Probably won't see them for awhile as they haven't been available in north america yet. The Funimation site says nothing about their release at the moment.
Nothing wrong with hentai, I own some myself except I will not say where I bought it from.
I like Bakemonogatari.Only saw episode one so far but..
I now know the persuasive power that a stapler can have. O_oObligatory. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSU0RQoyfv8&feature=related)
^Considering how bad the video games were that wasn't hard.:lordilannoyed: Minus the terrible plot and voice acting, Overdose was AWESOME.
And I got Gurren Laggan. Only 10 episodes in. I can't believe HE died! WAH!
But I like Viral the best. He has Madarame's voice.
I hardly watch anime at all anymoreSame here. I haven't watched any anime period since November, unless you factor Umineko and Mars of Destruction into the equation (both of which I'd love to forget ASAP).
I'm dissapointed, but maybe the last episodes will win me back.Only my opinion but.. er....... I...
evangelion 1.11 and I loved it especially angel 6 and its transformations, I thought wow, I just hope the second movie is just as good
I recently finished watching the 2004 Black Jack anime.Indeed! :il_hahaha:
I wonder how Black Jack would feel about Dr. Iwata...
It comes with time, but I actually really like Kenshin's voice. Having a female voice actor got to me at first, but it gives him alot more character. This tends to be done a lot for younger male characters, particularly with Japanese voice actors. And for the most part it doesn't bother me much as it usually seems to work.
Been watching Rurouni Kenshin. It's actually pretty good! The first episodes were dull and i wasn't too impressed with Kaworu as a love interest.
I got interested when Kenshin was kidnapped by the pirate girl. She was waaaay more interesting to me. Also, I like the battosai transformations, but they haven't been happening during the Kyoto arc.

Finally got to see lucky star in english, bloody funnyNever saw it english dubbed (except for a few fandubs). I was definately amused by the subbed version though. You recommend it?
Ookami Kakushi
Watched Bakemonogatari. Loved it. Good animation, good characters, good dialog, good anime. (I sound like such a fanboy, but I really did enjoy it alot)I saw it too. I don't think I've ever seen any anime series have such an original presentation to it. It was so different, it took me about three to four episodes to get fully used to. But this is not a bad thing at all. Originality in storytelling is rare these days.
Been watching more High School of the Dead. Ya know, it'd be a lot better if it wasn't for all the damn fanservice, boob-jiggling shenanigans. You mean like every anime? :e_annoyed:

I just finished "Angel Beats!".Definately agree! I finished up Angel Beats a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed it but towards the end it was too rushed.
I think it would have been much better if it wasn't pressed for time and done in only 13 episodes, but I loved it anyways.
:il_hahaha: The Matrix-like moments in the episode with the bullets...... it was so ridiculous I was both laughing and saying aloud, "The hell am I watching???"Been watching more High School of the Dead. Dude, watch it, then tell me it's not excessive. It's what I would call "gratuitous."
I was being serious when I said that every anime would be better off without gratuitous fanservice. I'll have to take your word on HOTD, though, since it really doesn't interest me at all. :kabapu-1:Been watching more High School of the Dead. not much lately, but am in eager expectation of season 2 of haruhi which comes out this monthYou are aware of the quality with season 2, right? As long as you know it's probably not going to be a problem for you. If you don't know, well... maybe you'd feel better getting some info first.
it's annoying there are no shops in the uk that import anime anymore
Watching Monster right now and it's quickly becoming my favorite anime. Man, every new character that appears in this show has some interesting backstory.Monster is AMAZING.
Ordered Trigun
Conbiochouchou (howya like my Japanese?):elpleased: !!
I've started watching serial experiments lain.
...
Bizarre
Such a weird series...it's just weird for the sake of being weird.
Someone has a crush on Char. :e_tongue:
I'm kind of a Crispin Freeman fan myself. He was literally born to do the english voice of Alucard. Totally badass.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Invasion! Squid Girl)
This is a really weird series which recently started airing. The premise has a humanoid squid girl... thing who proclaims that humans have abused the oceans by polluting them for far too long. Now the entire human race must pay the price by being enslaved by this little squid girl.. thing. Trouble is, little Ika knows very little of the human world and believes the world population to be a mere 1000 people. Her "base of operations" becomes the first building she sees on the beach - a restaurant! But just who is really in charge here as Ika suddenly sees herself working as a waitress and becomes an instant hit with the customers she serves..
Yeah, weird.
I thought I was done with stuff like this...My preference for thought provoking stories outweighs slice-of-life/gag anime. But I enjoy strange titles like these from time to time.
FMP is a bit lacklusterSecond Raid is WAAAAAAAYYYY better. Probably one of my favorite anime series ever. :im_nabeshin:
Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Invasion! Squid Girl)
Got the girl who leapt through time. Wonder if it's any good?I got it last Christmas.
Trivia fun! Name 5 characters or more that look like Basara - come on, it's not that hard.
Got a 5-pack of anime movies, the ones I've watched are Cowboy Bebop, Metropolis and Paprika(actually haven't finished yet).Neat! I just recently got Paprika for Christmas. Thought I'd put it on my Christmas list as getting it would be a kind of homage to Satoshi Kon who passed away last year. I plan to watch it in the next week or so and would be interested in your thoughts of it.
VandreadThat's another one of those first few anime series I ever bought. I thought it was kinda fun with the extreme gender gap thing. But yeah, the CG sequences can look very dated by todays standards. It always amazes me how far technology has come along (In this case, about a ten year span since release.)
just wish more anime would come out on blu-rayAnime on Blu-ray is rare around here too. About 96% of anime titles in the local stores are DVD format. Not sure why this is but I can speculate that many people are not willing to spend the extra money for HD quality. At least not yet. But then again, some anime titles (on DVD) are still on the expensive side too.
I'm back to looking for new stuff. Might buy Outlaw Star which looks pretty good, or finally get around to purchasing Eureka Seven. Maybe.
I never watched it like that, and likely never will.
I never watched it like that, and likely never will.Gokusen is great! One of my favorites...
Watching at the moment Gokusen, Mawaru Penguindrum (penguins), Akage no Anne and Macross frontier.
Summer Wars was absolutely GORGEOUS on BluRay! I didn't think it was all that long...The Blu-ray of this is at my local HMV, staring at me evertime I check stuff out. Is it worth buying? Heard good stuff about it.
I'm about to watch Angel Beats. I don't know much about it, but heard good things, so I hope it was worth the purchase...If you don't get a tad misty-eyed at the end, well, you're not human. Very moving.
E^D
The Blu-ray of this is at my local HMV, staring at me evertime I check stuff out. Is it worth buying? Heard good stuff about it.I think it was worth it. I don't know about the regular DVD, but on BluRay everything is so damn bright and sharp and colorful. Some scenes will explode your eyeballs.
If you don't get a tad misty-eyed at the end, well, you're not human. Very moving. The ending was very sad! :elcry:
Am still halfway through RahXephon, which if you refer to my last post, is pretty slow going. It's well enough, but I think I prefer the Eva movies in terms of Mech anime. Randamo, you're a connoisseur of Mechs, what do you recommend?
I liked RahXephon. It was definitely slow (as is a LOT of anime, honestly, in my opinion), and it definitely has the Eva thing going on, but I think it really found its eventually and made the show worth the effort.
Nobody else has been watching....I have been. Just nothing too much noteworthy.
Fate/Zero.That's good to hear. I guess I got somewhat discouraged after someone told me the first episode bored them. But I've still been wanting to check it out eventually.
It was awesome. :im_nabeshin:
It sets up the story, and it's actually pretty interesting. If they thought that was boring, I highly doubt they ever read the F/SN visual novel...Fate/Zero.That's good to hear. Not bad, but not quite my thing. Too much of that shonen Naruto/FMA vibe... And that, too. ^^;;
I've been recommended before to give Fairy Tail a go. After seeing about six episodes, I have mixed feelings about it. I'm also a bit intimidated by the large amount of episodes (and it's still going)..
QuoteNot bad, but not quite my thing. Too much of that shonen Naruto/FMA vibe... And that, too. ^^;;
Have to rewatch Pumpkin Scissors to get the little-boy taste out of my mouth.:kabapu-1: You've been hanging around with Mr. Watanabe again, haven't you?

Now I'm kind of scared to see what happens to Watanabe-chan in Vol 23-27! =:O" :watanabe: Hey Iwata... what was it like being inside a little girl?" - Volume 22 :il_hahaha:
Anyone else watching the new Lupin series? It's the best! :im_nabeshin:I heard about this. Is it a re-make, or an all new story?
